Meet Victor Reyes | Acrobatics and Tricking coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Victor Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Coming from a coaching background in martial arts and cirque, I was trained in the constant pursuit of self improvement.
I wanted to create an environment that nutures potential and helps kids discover what they are capable of with the right guidance.
When I retired to transition to the teaching side, I wanted to share my experiences and knowledge to the next generation. It’s pretty amazing what kids can do these days.
But it was also a challenge to myself to see what I was capable of as a coach. Thus, my brand Acromethod was born.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Probably the biggest driving factor is the excitement I share with my students when they nail a new skill. It’s like finishing a journey together. When they succeed, I’m even more motivated to improve myself as a coach to help them ascend further.
Was it always like this? Absolutely not. Starting out as a novice coach over 10 years ago, I nearly had no idea what I was doing. It was a mess. Teaching is a very different world from being an athlete. Just like any skill, it takes hours of consistent study and practice to master a craft. Thankfully, I was fortunate enough to have good mentors, at point even learning how to coach from Olympian gymnasts. So luck also had a part to play in my journey, but I took full advantage of it to help me improve my teaching ability.
But even now, I do have days where I feel the imposter syndrome creeping in. Making me question myself every now and then. However, that tends to be my driving factor to constantly try to improve myself as a teacher. Always open to learning. And I think that’s what truly sets me apart from the average coach.
I think there needs to be a healthy balance between seeking improvement, but still reminding yourself that you are enough. Everyone has a gift they will discover in their journey. You just have to make sure you commit to and nurture it.
I want my brand and my philosophy to embody that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ohhh that’s an easy one! Chinatown!
I’m a big foodie, and Chinatown definitely has the most flavorful and affordable spots to eat. There are alot of good places to eat in Houston, but Bellaire is always a safe bet when it comes to food, in my humble opinion. haha
Heights and Midtown are fun places depending if you’re into breweries or bars.
Herman Park is a great place to just walk around when the Texas heat isn’t crazy. But overall there would be too many fun spots to choose from for a week itinerary. Although typically with my own personal friends, we just play it by ear and see where the day takes us!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today without my life partner. My wife.
There was a moment in time where I questioned whether it was all worth it. I wanted to quit and move on towards different career trajectory. She helped reaffirm my passion for teaching and pushed me to keep going.
I honestly do not know where I would be without my partner’s support.
