We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Valcin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from Port Arthur, Texas, but I’ve lived in several places such as Atlanta and Savannah, GA, and Los Angeles, CA. My upbringing and my Christianity really shaped who I am today. It helped in building my faith so I can rest assured that I will always be just fine. I can pursue passions with ease and the sky is really not the limit.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My Business is The Invite | Event & Party Prop Rentals. We create and custom props for events and celebrations! Over 60% of my inventory is created by hand and the other half is sourced. We are HUGE on creating themed props and rentals to service various parts of Texas. We work with event decorators, planners of anyone wanting to add our rentals to their event.
I am proud of the work we do to bring happiness to our clients! Seeing the joy on their face after we set-up is PRICELESS! Celebrating any occasion at any age is a blessing.
I actually started my career in the Film and TV industry. I’ve lived in Atlanta and Los Angeles for many years and 2 years ago (with covid and strike) I migrated back to Texas and started, “The Invite”. Prior to that, I’ve always been in the arts. I studied Film/TV at SCAD and went on to work for production companies for- Fox, Disney, Miramax, Netflix, Tyler Perry Studios etc. So, I’ve always been in the arts. It started with the film industry and now the event industry. I am excited about bringing some huge ideas to the event industry!
My work in the film/tv industry was challenging earlier on in my career, but with dedication, focus and attention to God- all things were possible! One lesson I learned is to keep your head down and do the work. Focus on your own path and lane and it’ll get brighter before you know it!
I would like the world to know that I’ve never been given a hand-out, I’ve just been blessed by the Best!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Recognition belongs to my Parents & Supportive family (Barry and Debra Valcin), who always gave me the proper room to pursue my creative passions. My Pastor and First Lady at Harvest Time Bible Church (Dr. Marvin Moore & Lois Moore), who instilled in my the value of God and always pushing for success and cheering me on.
My high school film production teacher (Adrienne Lott), who instilled in me the value of working in a male dominated industry. My college, SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) which made me 1st get a sense of working with true artist. For everyone else who took a chance on me and hired me for films, tv shows and events!
