Meet Yesenia Bruno | Lash Boss

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yesenia Bruno and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yesenia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I got into makeup my freshman year of high school. Everyday I had a full face of cakey makeup and mascara. It was not a look, but putting on strip lashes was truly a struggle. I realized that a full face without lashes was just not going to work. So for me, lashes with simply just undereye concealer was life changing. I began putting lashes on daily even if they were crooked or halfway on. I eventually got better and realized I had a passion for lashes. I began selling a few pairs of individual lashes at school with simple diy packaging using wrapping paper and other craft supplies from Hobby Lobby. I worked on this throughout my Senior year creating a brand full of products that I believed were MUST HAVES. Shortly after I graduated, I took a lash extension course which turned the heat, all the way up!

What should our readers know about your business?
My Brand Yb.Lashes is a direct representation of me. I hand pick all of my strip lashes and I truly believe all my products are must haves. As for the lash extension side of my business, I consult each of my clients in order to create a unique lash set to fit their face, eyes and meet exactly what they ask for. The beginning of my business journey was extremely slow and discouraging. I had to get a 9-5 job in order to continue funding my business since I was not making many sales or bookings. I constantly worked on bettering my skills, content, and most of all communication skills; in order to connect with my customers at a more intimate level. I am most proud of the versatility of my clientele and the great connections I have made with each of my customers. I am constantly inspired by my loyal supporters to continue to grow and better my business. In hopes to keep spreading self love and confidence through my brand. I consider myself to be a Lash Enthusiast who also has a passion for fashion. I have been tirelessly working on a new merch brand called YbOfficial.Shop. I am currently working on merging the two in order to reach a wider audience and create a sense of community. My brand is about individuals, staying true to you and being your most authentic self. My biggest lesson as a young entrepreneur is to believe in yourself even if/when the world doesn’t. This is also the inspiration behind my brand slogan #UnapologeticallyMe.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area the first place I would take her is to the museum district where we would indulge in the beautiful creations of other artists. As well as the beautiful nature parks around the city. My favorite thing about life besides my family is being one with nature and being able to connect directly with God’s creations. Besides going to Buffalo Bayou I would also take her to Harwin. The most amazing street in Houston where creatives can go enjoy and buy almost anything. From nail supplies to motorcycles, accessories and Mexican vendors there is nothing you can’t find there. after we worked up an appetite from running into all the stores, I would take her to my favorite restaurant Seafood Connection! Where we would enjoy the best seafood in town and catch up on everything we’ve missed. Afterwards I would take her on a scooter ride around downtown in hopes that the George R. Brown Convention Center would b e having an event. We would continue to ride around stopping at nearby bars to grab drinks and vibes. We would probably;y end up at a wine bar and checking into the ZAZA Hotel.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my father for constantly pushing and believing in me. Encouraging me to think outside of the box and be an extraordinary individual. Growing up he always told me to never work for someone else, but to find something I was truly passionate about and figure out how to turn my lifestyle into an income. Growing up, my parents encountered a great language barrier being that they migrated from Mexico later on in their lives. They struggled to find people who would take the time to figure out what they were asking for since their English was very limited. Seeing my community disrespect my parents over their limitations sparked an endless fire; to create something that would include and empower everyone.
