We were fortunate to catch up with some brilliant artists, creatives and entrepreneurs from throughout the Houston area and they share the wisdom with us below.

Vicdaly Williams | Chemical Engineer & Entrepreneur

Chocolates Dalila is a family project that started in 2018 after my husband and I made a trip to Venezuela and noticed the need to start a business that not only includes our family but also had a positive social and economic impact in the community. We started out brain storming the products that Venezuela is best known for and ultimately decided that we would make craft chocolate, bean-to-bar, from cacao we would import from Venezuela and in that moment Chocolates Dalila was born! Chocolates Dalila celebrates our love for chocolate and supports the communities that cultivate it. By partnering directly with local farmers and cooperatives, we ensure fair prices for their labor and contribute to sustainable farming practices. Together, we promote the well-being of farming communities and the preservation of high-quality cacao crops. Read more>>

Shenette Prevo | International Event, Wedding, & Décor Professional

When it comes to my goals, giving up is not an option I consider. Instead, when things get rough—oh boy, do they get rough!—I reevaluate whether the plan I am using to achieve my goal is effective and make adjustments accordingly. I can tell you, when faced with challenges, my mind becomes my biggest opponent, wrestling with imposter syndrome and questioning if what I am confronting is truly worth it—ALL the things. To calm those thoughts, I remind myself of how a diamond is formed—with high pressures and high temperatures. It’s chaotic before it’s beautiful, and that’s the nature of tackling goals. If what I am trying to achieve were easy, everyone would be doing it! Read more>>

Millicent Borges Accardi | Freelance Writer

In life risk taking is often not risk taking per say but just a matter of following your gut or what YOU want in life versus what other people want for you or what is assumed by the general population to be a good business or creative idea. So, risk does not always – risky behavior, but risk, meaning acting upon own instincts and making decisions based on your goals, wants and needs. For example, “risk” to me might mean turning down a six figure job offer in exchange for an unpaid year of writing a book. A decision that many folks would have deemed “risky” Time after time, I have on purpose made decisions based on what I felt was right for me, versus what society may have felt was right. Read more>>

I was raised by my mother and grandma, these two have honestly inspired me the most throughout my life. Growing up with two single women as my examples they really unintentionally displayed what being a strong working woman should look like to me. So I would say draw inspiration by the women in my life as well as the metaphysical side of our existence, Read more>>

Deborah D.E.E.P Mouton | Writer and Performer

When people think if a being an artist, I think they are very closed-minded. We have been taught that the arts are unsustainable and unecessary. But being a writer, performer, and any other art that decides to flow through me feels very necessary to me. Artists teach compassion and empathy. Writers let us travel to entire worlds we may never see with our eyes. And doing that, there is a way to eat, live, and find success. Read more>>

I would say one thing about the modeling industry most people are unaware of would be how uplifting it can be. Personally I’ve dealt with a lot of self-image issues and social anxiety. I’ve also met so many amazing people while modeling that my social anxiety isn’t what it used to be. Read more>>

Joanna Oleaga | Picnic Planner

It has changed. At the beginning I was a full-time mom, dedicated to my kids and family. Being away from home, I wanted to be the one in charge of my kid’s full time. Now that they are a little older, I felt it was time for me to start becoming active again in the work force. Not an easy task for us women/professionals/moms who stepped away from any industry for several years. But in this experience, I have discovered that the more open you are about your reasons for being away, explaining the gap on your CV and embracing it, the better chance the right door will open for you. Especially, because if you still want to be involved in your kids’ activities, you need a job that understands, sick days, school plays or performances or just a complicated morning. Besides Glampicnics, I also work part time for a consulting company from home. But I’m full-on mom/chauffeur duties in the afternoons and now with Glampicnics, busy on the weekends. I still find time to come to their tennis matches and be present in most of their activities. I also have an amazing husband who supports me in this project and who has my back when I have a busy schedule ahead. Additionally, my kids support me 100% and love being involved with Glampicnics. My daughter comes with me for setups and my son is the official car loading expert! Read more>>
