The Risk Series: how do you think about risk?

Risk is the most common topic that comes up in our conversations with entrepreneurs and so each week we ask entrepreneurs to talk to us on the record about how they think about risk.

I would say I’ve always been a very adventurous person so risk has never really scared me much. I’ve had some of the most fun amazing times in my life taking risks. Without taking any risk, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. I’m an immigrant in the Houston area came to America in 2006, wanted to make my family life easier so I started working 2 to 3 jobs because I wasn’t satisfied with just one job. I would risk everything to do whatever it takes to support my family. I would risk away shyness and stay strong and confident to pursue new things in life that would help generate income. I see risk as a balance between courage and preparation. You can’t grow without it, but you also shouldn’t walk into it blind. One of the biggest risks I took was leaving a secure career in law enforcement to become a hairstylist and start my own business. At the time, it felt terrifying, but looking back, it was the best decision I could have made for my family, mental health, freedom, and happiness.
