Why they do what they do

We asked some of the city’s leading artists and creatives to tell us about how they decided to pursue an artistic or creative career. We’ve shared some highlights below.

I’ve always been creative since i was little. I love the full of control of creativity. Being able to express yourself in a way where no one else can. For me my artistic or creative career is being a Makeup artist. I loved that over the years of doing makeup, I learned more and more ways to improve my technique in creating a beautiful canvas on people in enhancing their beauty. Read more>>

Growing up watching content from independent creators on Youtube and other platforms, I feel really inspired me into pursuing a creative career where I could just do what I love. My parents helped me out with my first action camera which I started to use for almost every opportunity I had, form High School field trips to family vacations I tried to capture everything, then moved on to a DSLR camera which really helped me finding a passion in photography and video. Growing up as an openly gay black male , I was told that I could not do certain things, or even wear my hair a certain way/color. Sometimes by family, mainly by the area I grew up in. I’ve always expressed myself through fashion whether it was my hair, shoes, or outfit. I’ve inspired so many people that I’ve grew up with. Read more>>
