We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Moehlig and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Wharton, Texas and lived the first few years on my life in El Campo, Texas. My dad was a high school football coach and my mom worked with counselors for the school. My dad’s career then moved him to a larger high school where we moved to Richmond, Texas and stayed there through my high school graduation.
I feel that I had a great life growing up in a safe community and supportive neighborhood. We were a middle class family where both of my parents needed to work to provide for us. They still have their careers to this day. Both my mom and dad had athletic backgrounds, mom cheerleading, track and volleyball, my dad playing all the sports at his school and receiving a football scholarship to a D1 university. It was inevitable that their children, my brother and myself, would pursue an athletic lifestyle.
My dad has played a major role in the way I am today. For many years he continued to say “Do what’s right, and everything (winning) will take care of itself.” I continue today to “do what is right,” to the best of my ability. I can proudly say I was a respectful, hard working, driven, goal-oriented leader in my adolescent years and those characteristics plus some, not only have strengthened but continue to guide me to the successes I have gained through adult hood.
I don’t take my careers lightly, I don’t take my ability to produce great outcomes lightly either, and because of that, I have been teaching and coaching high school athletes for over a decade, and am going head first into my Real Estate business with the best mentors I could ask for.
I think with my background in athletics, on top of a large family-oriented lifestyle, has molded me to understanding what hard work, dedication, sacrifice and even being defeated can do to help you grow. Success wasn’t my entire lifestyle, but the pursuit to be successful for myself and those who are effected by my success was. If I knew that my role was to build, create, enhance, or push others (teammates, colleagues, student-athletes) to be successful, my instinct was to make myself better along the way.
Family is a huge part of me, I enjoy being around the people I love, supporting them in their events, shows, games, etc. and celebrating their major accomplishments as well. Nothing can feel more at home than being surround by your family. And because of this, I think it is why my rapport with past, current and future student-athletes and clients has grown. My service to them is to make them feel at home, to feel comfortable, to trust in what guidance I may bring them not only for the current moment were working together, but for their future. I enjoy hearing how my advice, my method, or my ability to share experiences guided them to make a decision that sources a positive outcome for them. That’s all coaching is! In both athletics and real estate.
I believe I was prepped for this journey in my life at a young age. I had many coaches in my life, all who are now a puzzle piece to my coaching methods, as well as mentors who are also pieces of my workmanship in my real estate life. My background made me who I am, and I am taking it by the horns and riding it through the finish line!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Right now I am a Licensed Real Estate Agent for Keller Williams Southwest and The HomeCoach Realty Group, High School Special Education Teacher, and high school volleyball and soccer coach, as well as working remote with marketing and social media for a company out of California called Emprove.
I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to adapt to change quickly and adjust to fit that change. I can manage multiple tasks and seperate high-need verse low-need actions in order to get things done correctly and before or within deadlines. I think I handle all my different “caps” well, without reflecting much stress onto others. I am not prideful enough to ask for help, clarification or continue to learn more on my careers.
I am most proud of the great relationships I have built with colleagues and student-athletes, getting my real estate license, a goal I had for myself for a long time, and being a proud mother of two sweet, smart and loving children through it all.
I was able to get to where I am today professionally with the help of God, educational mentors, and my family. I think my biggest drive to get me to where I am today are my children. I do everything for the outcome of their lives and they are right there every step of the way pumping me up with smiles, laughter, hugs, kisses and unconditional love every day.
If it were easy, every one would do it. That is what I tell my athletes, and something I continue to say to myself daily. It definitely was not easy and it wont get any easier. Being a continual learner is what CW, my real estate mentor and boss, continues to remind me. Continually learning and investing in knowledge to be better each day will produce major outcomes of success. Whenever any aspect of my growth became challenging, I always made time to step away from it, even for a brief moment. I would need a mental recheck. This would help me come back and see the situation in a different mindset, which in turn would help with the challenging parts. I also make sure to get plenty of sleep. Sleep is important to me, if I don’t have it, I can’t function at my best. Also, utilizing other’s perspectives. What I am thinking may not always be the best route. When I would present a challenging situation to someone and get their perspective, usually they bring a different method of looking at it, a different way to tackle the situation, a scenario to play off of.
Lessons I have learned are: take it one step at a time. You can’t beat the day by large, small efficient steps will get you to the finish line. Also I learned that I am not always right. Trust others and don’t overconsume yourself with all the work. And the major one, be a parent first and love yourself, your characteristics will reflect and effect your little ones.
I want the world to know that I am pursuing a life to create the best opportunities for my children. I want to show them what hard work gives you and how to be a strong woman who knows her self-worth. I am trying everyday to reflect a positive role modal to them and how they can gain their own confidence even at a young age. I want the world to know that I am working alongside some successful Real Estate Planners who believe in exceptional customer service and hospitality, and I will continue to build from their mission each and every day. I want the world to know that I am here to coach others through out their process and make their home planning goals go smooth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think living in the surrounding Houston area, your options are literally endless. I would absolutely put a sporting event on the calendar, depending on the season, but personal favorite are the Houston Astros! Before attending an event, I would take them to near by pubs for a cold drink, fun atmosphere and amazing city setting of Houston.
Next on the list would be a music scene: Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo if possible! Hit up the wine garden, get a turkey leg and enjoy the ambiance and music it provides. There are so many different musicians of all genres both well-known and still growing that are equally entertaining.
Definitely find a nearby festival or farmers market in the area, some of the best food, drinks and interaction come from our festivals!
Of course would have to drive down to the coast. I personally love Galveston and the historical architecture it has. The buildings, stores, food and events the city hosts bring back the best memories for me and something I love to share with others.
Endless options of food, shopping, and coffee. But any of those, I think I would like to focus on smaller businesses.
Enjoy the different trails green spaces within the city.
I think with a city like Houston and everything surrounding it, I would have to definitely map out the perfect week to share my city with my best friend! There is just so much to offer!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to first thank God for giving me the opportunity to pursue my passions. His plan has set me up for the success I have gained and will continue to receive along the way. I want to thank my parents, Gina and Scott, who support, guide and help me through everything. My immediate and extended family who also continue to support me.
Korey and his family for their encouragement and guidance along the way.
My colleagues both in teaching and coaching throughout my many years in education. Some of the strongest family you’ll have are your teaching and coaching family.
CW and Ann Ross who have been the best mentors and co-workers in my Real Estate life. They have the biggest hearts and patience to teach me.
Many many many others who have provided encouraging words, prayers, help, and a listening ear when I needed it the most.
I love you all dearly!
