We had the good fortune of connecting with Bob Pryor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bob, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
My creative work makes me happy, as my intention is to make other people’s lives better. Whether if is cheering them up by hearing a song that inspires or encourages them, a song that makes them think, or a song that makes them know they are not alone in this world, it gives me great pleasure to be able to have them feel better and more positive about their life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been involved in music since I was a youngster, over sixty years as a singer, composer, guitarist, and author. I’ve also conducted seminars in Leadership techniques. From my early teens I performed in bands working regularly at clubs and related events in the New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey area. I was fortunate enough to meet a great group of people who all wanted to have a successful band and were willing to put in the work to make it happen. Along with a lot of work and talent in this band came luck as we were able to secure an agent who got us great bookings all over the area. To me, it was never a challenge as we loved doing it and to us, it was never work. When I was around twenty-two, my parents relocated to Texas, and shortly afterward I did as well, as the people in the band went their different ways. I moved to the Spring area and never looked back! Fast forward about twenty year, due to business demands in various executive roles, my music took a temporary back seat. After years in the Corporate arena, I started my own training company. It was during that time that I picked up my guitar again, and a wonderful thing happened; I began writing original music, a lot! As of this day, I have over 450 tunes and am still writing! Most of my music which is very varied in genres, reflects my life, spiritual leanings, and things that are relevant to all people, and many are thought provoking. I have built a home recording studio and has created 6 Cd’s, 4 music books, and a book of articles and essays I wrote. I have performed in many different churches throughout the Houston area as I have groups of songs which are spiritual in nature and have worked well with their services. During the Covid pandemic, I performed live music for church services on Zoom. During the last few years, due to severe arthritis, I’ve been wheelchair bound. But those limitations have not stopped me, and with the help of today’s technology, I am continuing to write and perform, despite my disability. Sometimes being a Senior can be depressing when you lose some abilities you had when you were younger. I have fought that off by writing positive articles directed at Seniors to help them realize this is the beginning of their life, not the end of it! One of my articles, “When Did I Become Irrelevant?,” describes the emotional process we face as we age and motivates the reader to “start over, newer and better!” I have been truly blessed to be able to create all types of content and communicate it to others. I am just getting started!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, I could write for ages on this one! A lot of my friends are big baseball fans, so if the Astros were playing, we would try to get to a game, and show off our World Champions and Minute Maid park! Many of my friends are also involved in music, so we would probably “jam” at my house, and come up with who knows what kind of music? Being somewhat restricted by my mobility issues, running around is somewhat difficult for me, but going to many of the big name steakhouses, Asian food, Tex-Mex restaurants, NASA and Galveston would all be on the docket. Also, just a slow trip through downtown Houston as it has grown into a most impressive city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, Rose and Tom Pryor, who are sadly no longer with us. Without their support and patience when I was young and became interested in music, I would not had the confidence to perform, write, and express my inner thoughts through writing. Their support and encouragement carries through my adulthood, and to this day that love which I’ll carry forever, still propels me to continue to use all of my creative gifts to try and make other peoples lives better.
