We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabree Cotton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabree, how do you think about risk?
I believe that taking risks is essential for leading a successful life and business. Taking risks means you’re not afraid to try new things. The biggest risk I’ve taken in life was moving myself and my family across the country to Houston less than 2 years ago and completely starting a brand new business in an unknown place. In 2020, I lost my brother and grandfather. January 2021, I lost my dad. Leaving behind everything and everyone we knew after such losses was a major risk. I no longer had support with my children or the comfortability of knowing lots of people who I could call on if something went wrong. I have experienced many challenges along the way, but it has been worth it. Upon moving here, I only knew a handful pf people, I was not licensed in esthetics, and had not began the business formation process. I’ve had to literally start my business from nothing and I am very proud of my progress so far.
What should our readers know about your business?
Eminence Spa and Retreat is a day spa that takes a holistic approach to wellness. It is our belief that self care is a necessity, not a luxury. It is our desire that our clients walk away better than they came in. One thing that sets us apart from other spas is our Manday Mondays. Mondays, we dedicate the day to servicing men. Often times, men don’t prioritize their own self care, we focus on nurturing our men clients everyday, but especially on Mondays. Men receive customized facials and other wellness services with complimentary upgrades on Mondays. Another things that sets us apart are our cold pressed juices that are incorporated into the spa. We remind our clients that what you put into your body plays a roll in your overall well being. Many of our clients also order juice cleanses from us to help keep them hydrated and healthy. Making the juices is one of my husband’s roles in the spa.
Lastly, what sets us apart from other spas is our array of services offered. We offer typical spa services such as waxing and facials. We also offer more holistic services such as womb therapy, also know as v-steam, and targeted cryotherapy. Additionally we offer skin tag and mole removal.
We have gotten to where we are today mostly by word of mouth and by spending lots of time in the community. No, it’s not easy. Sometimes, I want to skip events and forfeit ticket fees and vendor fees. lol However, I know that being social is one of the easiest ways to meet people in such a large city. The more people you know, the more your business grows.
I want the world to know that Eminence Spa and Retreat is here to stay. There are so many parts that have not yet come to fruition, but big things are on the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place I would take my best friend is to get some delicious food from one of the many unique restaurants here in Houston. One of my favorites is The Taste Bar. Their food and drinks are top tier. We would then visit downtown to see all the amazing views. We would enjoy a workout class at Discovery Green and visit one of the many coffee houses after. For dinner, we would go to Warwick or Juliet and enjoy surf and turf and amazing cocktails.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Donovan. Without his support, I would not be able serve the community or grow this business without his love and support. He’s had to adapt to being my personal assistant, picked up several of my normal duties, and has put some of his own dreams on hold to see mine come to fruition. I am forever grateful for his love and support.
