We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thomas, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I was raised in a Christian home, all things are given through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior who I honor in all that I do. My grandmother, great-grandmother, and grandfather are no longer with us, but core Christian values were instilled in my life at such a young age. I would also say studying, not being afraid to take risk and fail. You can’t fear to make mistakes, they shape and mold us into who we are today. When you take risks, you learn that there will be times when you succeed, and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important. Learning and building on what you have already done is key, you have to remind yourself that there is someone who wants to be where you are when things start going your way. Remain humble, reach out, teach seek guidance and also give that guidance to others. The world would be such a better place if people put egos to the side and helped each other, we all have knowledge in different aspects of life career wise and so much more. Never be afraid to ask questions, ask for help, suggestions and more. These things mold and shape success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I definitely love to challenge myself in all that I do. I had to learn not to be afraid from venturing off from the normal. A wise person in my field told me it’s not about the records you play, it is playing the right things at the right time. I am excited for the future and what God has in store for me. I’m studying production and more as we speak. It took some time, a few years from my start to earn a full-time living from what I do for a career. I had a corporate job for years in the resturant industry. I actually was a full-time college student pursuing a hotel and restaurant management degree. I thought this was what I really wanted to do for the rest of my life. I enjoy people, catering to the needs of others, to be selfless. My late grandparents and family taught me that. From day one as being a creative it wasn’t easy, but I knew it was a way. God has always been the foundation of my life, my trust lies in him forever until the day I leave this Earth and his plan for me I will follow with no shame at all. I believe that all things fell in line in the timeframe they were supposed to. Knowing your audience is one of the best things that I can tell someone who is wanting to build their presence there. Set goals for yourself, why are you on social media in the first place? Be very specific with the goals you make, make sure they are obtainable and measurable. Keep the goals relevant to what your overall goal is that you are looking to achieve. Have a personality, basically be a human being. Get to know your audience on a personal level. Build the relationships, seek those, and not just followers. Be visual, market yourself because if you don’t then who will. Make your presence know for sure is a key component. Stay active, provide the content that the audience wants to see, think outside the box. You are a visionary, so use that to your advantage. You can do anything that you put your mind to, I promise you that. Keep God first and everything else will follow.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow, there are so many different venues and things to do in Houston. Where do I really start? Houston is busy Monday through Monday. KAMP Houston, Prospect Park, Southside Sporting Club, Thirteen, Sekai, CRU Lounge, Clutch Bar, 5306, Heart, Casa Blanca, Azuza, and so many more are vibes in the city. I literally could go on for days talking about the very cool venues we have here and a lot that I actually play at. Nightlife is insane here, there is something to do every single day of the week and I love it. Restaurants to try out here, Bungalow is great, upscale steak house very intimate setting, food and drinks as well. Turkey Leg Hut has been a staple here as well, Clarkwood, Patterson Park, anywhere in the Heights area has great bars. Like I said before there is so much to do in the city you’ll be amazed that you can go anywhere at any day of the week and it’s popping.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people to thank. I would love to start by thanking God for everything he has provided career wise, individuals that I have met in my lifetime through him and so much more. My parents, my friends who have been around me since the beginning of this journey as well. I would like to extend thanks to anyone who gave me a chance as well to display my talents in the earlier parts of my career, and also the stage I am in as we speak today. Numerous individuals, and promotion teams, and hospitality groups that I work with to this very day. I have been influenced by numerous amounts of people as well in my field. First DJ who took me under his wing became my mentor even till this very day goes by the name of Scott Summers. The ALIFE Hospitality Group, The Selective Group, Sticky Promotions, Clutch Bar, 5306, Casa Blanca, the owners and staff of CRU, Klean-Up Krew, Goodfellas, and so so many more to name. There were so many who took and gave me a chance which turned into lifelong friendships and work. I could tell these stories all day long, the job is never finished though, there is always room to grow and improve. My biggest motivation in the game is my all time favorite DJ, the legend himself DJ Mr. Rogers. He is one who I admire not just as a pioneer in the industry but as a human being, he is a great example of a pure humanitarian, father, leader, and guide as well. Dr. McDaniels who became one of my best friends outside of the industry has always pushed me to greater heights, I know if I pick up my phone to call him for something he would answer in a heartbeat. J-Stone has always been around me as a older brother figure in this as well, Flywhite, Q-Holic, Cee Watts, Reggie Benard, MC Kane, MC Beezy, KillaQuin, Vanillatrill, DJ Ari, DJ D-Wells, DJ YoungStreetz, Chase B and so many more are just to name a few some of the ones who I’ve been around since the beginning. As stated before I can speak on so many people and how much they have done for me, and I thank God for these people in my life not just for creating opportunities for myself, but also for others as well. Jacob Stephens, Molo, Jay-R Ramos, JR Martins, Johnathan Reitzel, Alan Hernandez, Victor Alas, Martin Pinion, and so many more to name.
