Meet DeRay | Hip hop artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with DeRay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeRay, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be one of truth. I want people to remember that I always stayed authentic. I want them to know that even through difficult times or the challenges, I did my best to make the right decision in that moment.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say that my mission with the music sets me apart. It’s never been about the big houses, the cars, the chains, or woman. I want to inspire and show those who are pursuing any dream that the success is what you make it. That’s not to say that, what I listed above is every hip hop artist dream or mission.

I’d have to say I’m proud of the music I make. I keep authentic, and hearing that from fans or supporters are the most beautiful thing. I got where I am now by being patient but following instructions from the mentors I have. I am by no means where I want to be.

I would say some lessons I have learned , are it takes time and you have to be patient. There is a lot of work that goes into the business side and the music side, and I’m still learning what that looks like .

I want the world to know that, I’m doing music until the wheels fall off. My Job is being counselor, but music is my outlet and my dream. A dream that I am working towards.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m from Indiana, I would say that the art museum would be a area I take them because the art is so beautiful!! Another place would be Urban vines, which is an amazing winery. There is a restaurant called Grind stoke on the Monon, I think they have some amazing food there. The next must in the list would be Ivanhoes which has some of the best ice cream. To top off the visit I would take my best friend to Flicks brew house, which is Ana awesome way to experience your a popular movie being released. I’d say these are the top things I would do with a best friend visiting.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have played a role in my story. I would first have to say God, cause without him my talent would not exist. Second would be my parents, they have supported me day one since I started creating music, third my cousin Jarrett Michael and my engineer Korey West. Both have contributed to my growth musically. Fourth my fiancé Brianna Garcia who supports my dream and pushes me!!. Lastly my friends who come to shows and share my music.
