We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmeen Ervin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmeen, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
People may think being a food blogger is easy, but it’s not. At first it’s fun but then your passion kicks in. That requires you to start studying and developing your craft, while trying to balance that with your work life. Networking and building relationships is a very key as well in being a good blogger. Most importantly, you will always be the hardest on yourself when you get into something like blogging because you will try to compare yourself all the time. It’s not easy but it’s fun and rewarding over time.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my day to day outside of vlogging. I work in credit card processing. It’s a very challenging job but that’s what I love about it’. Things are always changing and developing. What’s a process this week, may not be the process next week and it keeps you on your toes. Balancing that and vlogging which are two totally different worlds, trains your brain in my opinion. I’ve been doing my professional career for about 6-7 years and my vlogging for about 2 years and I love them both.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is such a hard question. It makes my mind go like a hamster on a wheel lol. So first I would take them to Shipleys for kolaches and donuts (Shipleys on Ella) for breakfast. For lunch, Donaletis for some of the best Mexican food ever. I wouldn’t narrow down what to get here because everything seems to be good. For dinner, Ruggles Black for a nice fine dining experience with great service and food. The next day, we would have breakfast at this small local diner called, “Hanz” for chicken and waffles but everything I’ve had here is good as well. For fun, I would take them to “Palace Social”, it’s like a game hall and of course we would have lunch there. For dinner, I would take them to the Rouxpours for some of the best oysters and cocktails in the city. The next day, I would take them to brunch at “Bar 5015” for shrimps and grits or jerk lamp chops and grits but they have so many great brunch menu items. For the afternoon fun, I would take them to “Main Event” this is another great game and activity hall and we would have lunch there, because the food is great. Now for dinner, I would take them to Chinatown to one of my favorite spots, such as Tan Tan, Fufu’s restaurant or Sihn Sihn. All amazing places to dine at. For the next day, I would take them to “First Watch” for breakfast. Then, I would take them to the “Galleria Mall” for shopping and hanging out. The mall has tons of things to do there. For lunch, in the same area, I would take them to “Casa Do Brasil” for a great Brazilian feast. Now for some late night fun, I would take them to Daiqs for music, dancing, great food and drinks or “The Address”. On the next day, I would take them on a cultural experience. First stop, would be “Cherry Foodarama” for great Filipino food prepared cafeteria style inside the grocery story. For lunch, I would take them to “Lucy’s Ethiopian Restaurant” for Ethiopian food of course. For dinner, I would take them to a small local spot called, “Amala Joint” for Nigerian food. One the last day I would try to take them all over the city, but the first stop would be “POST Houston” for a variety of food and rooftop hangout. I would then book a spot with “HoustonPaintSesh” for a paint party. For lunch, I would take them to Grubbs bbq to try some local bbq. Then for more fun, we would go to an escape room or discovery green since it’s always something going on there plus it’s a great spot to just hang out outside and enjoy the scenery. Lastly, for dinner I would take them to “Burger Park” for some of the best local burgers in Houston. It’s so many places i could list out but this list would be super long. Just know, houston has so many great places to dine at, have some fun or relax. You could come to Houston for any reason and find something to fit the agenda.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is so hard because I don’t want to forget anyone. I’ve met some people recently that have influenced me to want to go harder and do better with my craft. First, Keyshia (Keywillblogs), Tiana (Wherewefinnaeatat), Chanika (NeekxKitchen), Shayla (Holashayla), and Crystal (Hougottatrythis). Just to name a few, but I love everyone in the blogging community and I thank any and everyone who has helped or influenced me.
