We had the good fortune of connecting with Rotimi Johnson Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rotimi, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe the most important factor behind my business is building strong relationships and being a professional. I’ve been a barber for a decade now and have seen many changes. These two key values have not only kept me in business, but have offered me so much knowledge. I make sure I am always on time and that I am very considerate of everyone. It allows us to grow in a healthy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what makes the TimCutz experience so unique is that it’s bigger than the haircut. It is about building a person up, making sure they feel just as confident inside as they do on the outside. Creating a place of comfort that people can go to and express themselves. I put a serious effort into knowing about what’s going on in everyone’s life. I am the man they see before graduation, job interviews, holidays, weddings, funerals. That is a huge responsibility so I treat it as a privilege.
I got where I am today by keeping God first and trying to understand his purpose for me. I’ve worked non stop to became better at my craft. I’ve worked seven days a week most of my career. I do not make excuses and I always hold myself the most accountable.
It is not always easy and your work will not always be appreciated. In those situations I’ve learned to work with quality over quantity. I only work with people who see the value in my work and have respect for this craft. This process can take years. I now have clients who care about their time and hold themselves equally accountable. It is a great way to build and maintain a relationship.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always recommend Spicy Girl, a Sichuan restaurant here in Midtown. The food is incredible and the the hospitality there is unbeatable. Winnie’s is becoming a new favorite of mine also, good burgers!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank Acres Home Barber College who gave me a chance when I was only sixteen years old. I would like to thank all of the people who have given me the opportunity to be their barber. I have received so much positive energy and support over the years. I’ve gotten the privilege of growing with my clients as the years have gone by. I feel like I learn something new everyday. I would like to thank my beautiful wife for always being by my side and giving me a stronger purpose in life. She motivates me everyday to be a better man.
