We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Badd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tony, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Music was always on my fathers side of the family. My dad is a retired UPS driver and played bass on the weekends around Houston so seeing him come and go to gigs was an early influence for me. Not only that but once I learned how to play, I could extract feelings that I may not have expressed verbally as well as being able to express for others that are watching me perform. My pursuit is for universal expression and love for the beauty of creativity.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I play music full-time in Houston, and throughout various states. With my Tony Badd project it helps me extract emotions for not only myself, but I can tell the story of others while painting a audible picture via my music

For me when it came to infiltrating the music scene and getting where I am now, it was relatively easy. My father and uncle were already established musicians, and by the time I was eight I already knew what I was going to do with the rest of my life.
I have been performing since I was around 16 years old and the lessons I have learned from this business is to be professional, on time, and don’t take yourself to seriously. I am in a social business so attitude plays a huge role in getting call backs.
I would say I am most proud of everything I have done musically because it is all lead me to where I am now. It might seem cliché, but not giving up on your dreams is key. I kept pushing forward and spoke what I wanted into existence. It most certainly didn’t happen overnight but I worked very hard to get where I am so I’m honored to perform music for a living.
If I want the world to know anything, I want them to know that I am Tony Badd and I do everything with my daughter in my heart and mind.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is extremely diverse when it comes to its cuisine and entertainment so this will be tough.

When it comes to food, I will suggest: Chilosos, Monkey’s Tail, Les Baget, El Gato (Food Truck), Turkey Leg Hut, Waffle Bus, and Tostada Regia all day.

As far as places I guess I would suggest: Speedy’s Fast Track to race go karts, Miller Outdoor Theatre who hosts free shows of many kinds, Houston Zoo which is free on the 1st Tuesday of each month, and any place our band Rapture (Rapture -Houston) is playing at will be fun!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My whole family on both sides who were always supportive of my musical endeavors.

My beautiful lady Liz (Amazing singer in our band Rapture) who is always level headed and believes in what I do.

My late step father Ron Hicklin who bought me every piece of musical gear to start a band and also took great care of my Mom and I.

My late English teacher Anya Herrera who taught me about expression through writing.

My best friend and late brother Anthony Cruz Jr. who I grew with musically and learned how to perform with.

My final shout out is to my beautiful daughter Adalynn Brielle Bastida. I do everything with her in my heart and mind no matter what.
