We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Hide and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cindy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I appreciate others who share their experience and knowledge with the intention of being of service. That’s exactly what I’m trying to do through Love, Money & the Law, clarity relationship coaching, and, my family law practice. I reasoned that if I had a tough time trying to decide whether to stay or leave my marriage, other women might be struggling with their decision making and divorce experiences, too. I also understood the value and consequences of complete financial disclosures during settlement negotiations. At the time there wasn’t really a person or place to go for insights into the legal system other than an expensive lawyer, or, someone to act as a guide. So, I decided to create a program for discernment and education. I was passionate about helping other women avoid some of the costs and heartbreaks I experienced, but I wasn’t sure how to monetize my knowledge. Starting over after years of being a behind the scenes entrepreneur with my husband, a stay at home mom and a public servant was intimidating. But determined to make it happen, Love, Money & the Law was eventually born as a forum to create a place where insights and practical information about marriage and divorce could be shared transparently and without influence. And now after lots of hours of love and effort, Love, Money & the Law’s offeres videos, podcasts, seminars and webinars.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My focus on creating prenuptial agreements in my family law practice, and, the desire to support healthy relationships through clarity coaching/creating products for Love, Money & the Law, are based on helping others find happiness in their relationships, especially when considering whether to stay or leave. My enthusiasm springs from knowing what it’s like to know love inside a great marriage and to also feel the heartbreak of it ending with young children under wing. I started over late in life and literally lived on a mattress on the floor while I built my law practice. It took me over ten years to recreate a life on my own and become debt free and overcome the emotional stress of divorce with children. I believe we should try as parents to do everything possible to hold onto our marriages, especially with kids. But if you have to leave, best to do so with as much knowledge about the legal system as possible. There’s lots to consider before jumping out of a committed relationship. I do my very best to treat my clients as I would want to be treated if I were in their shoes. It’s why I enjoy relationship clarity coaching for anyone struggling with the decision to stay or leave. With years of life experiences – both as a lawyer and personally – I bring the benefit of unique perspectives that many other life coaches cannot offer.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a great question and if I were answering before Covid19 it would be a very different answer. Today, however, since we’re so limited in where we can go and what we can do, I’d focus on the treasure of friendship and how to enjoy it outside where the risks of the pandemic are lower. I go to restaurants that have outside seating, walks in the park, outdoor swimming, barbecues, sailing, Galveston beach time and wine time on open patios!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m blessed with many wonderful people who I have the privilege of calling Friend and Mentor. But there’s one steadfast voice who’s been my greatest, most loyal encourager and source of spiritual support for many years. I met Fr. Anthony Palazollo over 15 years ago at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana where I was speaking to service providers about domestic violence and child sexual abuse at the North American Conference for Separated and Divorced Catholics. Fr. Tony was the Chaplain for this incredible organization that supported those in healing professions. He came to both of my talks about the family dynamics of abuse and best practices for addressing victims in their healing. A lifelong friendship was launched over a lunchtime discussion as we shared a heart for others who hurt and an understanding that healing happens when we connect to God, the ultimate source for recovery. Fr, Tony remains my dearest friend and supportive voice. Over the years he’s somehow always known when to call and check in to say “hello” at just the right moment. Maybe I’d been feeling discouraged, my children had an issue, or perhaps I’d received a diagnosis that was less than happy. His wisdom has always calmed my fears and gently turned my focus back to the one God Source, where there is only abundant love. I believe our greatest gifts in life appear in the form of pure hearts and shining spirits closest to the God of our understanding. I’m honored and grateful to the loving soul that’s expressed through Fr. Tony, forever.
