We had the good fortune of connecting with Susi Lopera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susi, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art, to me, is the most satisfying and rewarding hobby and career. I feel engaged and relaxed when I’m creating, and every art project feels exciting as I try out new techniques, materials, and colors. Teaching art at my art studio also gives me a feeling of fulfillment as I inspire and empower others to unleash their own creativity.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Art has always been a big part of my life, but for years I struggled with bipolar depression and lost all my joy in creating. Teaching art at my studio has once again sparked my happiness. I feel so blessed to be able to inspire and empower people to be creative every day.

Classes at my studio, Susi Lopera Art Studio, are perfect for all levels of experience and all ages. I offer glass art classes, resin classes, and acrylic pour painting classes. I provide all supplies. All you need to bring is a desire to learn and have fun! The studio is available for private classes, parties, team-building activities, and more.

I love my job because I love seeing people’s excitement and joy as they unleash their creativity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
1. Hopscotch Immersive Art Experience is a one-of-a-kind gallery in which all of the art is interactive. A lot of the exhibits have awesome colored lights and optical illusions. The gallery makes me feel like a kid full of excitement and wonder.

2. The Tower of the Americas is so fun and unique. It is a revolving 750-foot high observation tower and restaurant where you eat yummy food while looking at expansive views of the city.

3. The Japanese Tea Garden is beautiful land peaceful with it winding paths through koi-filled ponds and lush trees.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, Lina and Jorge, have always encouraged me as an artist. They believe in me more than I believe in myself, and, without them, I wouldn’t have the courage to run my own art studio. I’m so incredibly blessed to have supportive parents and I’m so grateful for them.

My husband, Chris, is my best friend and greatest supporter. He makes my life sweeter and easier, and I can’t imagine life without him. Without his support and love I wouldn’t be where I am today.

My teachers, Karen Koblitz and Ovidio Giberga, made me the artist I am today. They taught me new skills and techniques and they inspired me to broaden my creativity. I am so grateful to them.
