We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Paul Fiore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonathan Paul, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have always had unwavering commitment to my life’s vision in the face of apparent risks. Working toward my visions regardless of any factors on my path awards me with invaluable experiences. There are always ups and downs through the days and months but this approach only reaps me significant upward success over the years.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Having visions and manifesting those visions has always driven me. As I grew up, I would see cartoon characters, T-shirt designs, murals, logos, paintings and illustrations in my mind’s eye and obsessed over learning the crafts required to create them. Illustrating as a child began simply with paper and pencil but evolved to include anything I could get my hands on as I’ve developed. Graphite, ink, paint, screenprinting, graphic design and tattooing have become my favored mediums.

Today, I tattoo mostly while working toward digital illustration and painting becoming more dominant mediums of my career.

I got to where I am today through rebellion. Doing what feels best for me despite the pressures of my environment has been critical in finding myself and I believe finding ourselves is the greatest success.

I want the world to know that we can imagine life better together and I expect my life to be a testament to that ideal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Austin, tacos are always a first priority. Papalote, Veracruz and Torchy’s are my go-to taco joints. After powering up on tacos, trekking around the nature of the Greenbelt trails is a must ATX experience. The Blanton Museum and West Chelsea Contemporary are my favorite places around here to see fine art exhibits. On top of that, exploring the live music scene is one of my favorite things to do around Austin. We gotta see who’s playing in town!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother, Joanna Wright, deserves immeasurable gratitude and endless shoutouts from me for always being there to support me in every way she can. Apart from her, I cannot possibly be more grateful to everyone who has supported the Vipassana tradition in the lineage of S.N. Goenka over the centuries. Encountering this Vipassana practice has been the single most important event of my life after birth.
