We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Coelho and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carol, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am a risk-taker. 100%. I try to be cautious and analytical but ultimately I follow my instincts. I think trusting yourself and believing in something strongly when you are taking a risk, gives you the strength to keep going even if at the end it doesn’t work out.

When I am thinking about the risks, I always ask myself, “what is the worst that can happen?” And I weigh the benefits vs the problems because one thing I learned was that you cannot win if you don’t play. If we are in this game called having a business, we might as well bet when the chances arise.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I knew I wanted to be a designer since I can remember being aware of my surroundings. I used to play “boutique” and pull out all of my clothes and rearrange them all over the room with small pieces of paper pretending to be prices.

There was something about the idea of dressing others and creating new pieces of clothing that I simply couldn’t sit still and wait to do it. And as I grew up, I was working towards a goal, to be a designer with my own brand one day.

As I became a professional and started working for other design houses, it was gratifying to see customers pick out the garments I had designed and hear the comments, whether they were positive or negative. I learned so much from working for other designers and could ultimately use those learnings when I was ready to start my own business.

I started out as an evening and bridal wear designer and was making dreams come true producing custom-made wedding gowns. In 2015, when one bride asked me to design her nuptial lingerie and other brides started asking for the same. I thought, wait- there must be a market for this.

in 2016 we launched our first intimate collection and offered luxury lingerie not just to brides but to all women in general, ranging from bras and panties, bodysuits, robes and nightgowns. By the third year, it was about 70% of the business’ revenue.

Today, we are focused 100% of our time offering lingerie and loungewear. I praise creating lingerie that could be worn outside the bedroom, lingerie that carries my sharp design-driven DNA, garments made for women by women, prizing what we hold most dear: all our differences, made to be shown.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
i live in “horse country”, a town called Wellington, which is the winter equestrian capital of the world. There are 5 months of the year where the equestrian community comes to live here. The town is filled with people and events around the area. We are super close to Palm Beach and Delray so I’d take my friend out for dinner in Delray on Friday night to this place I love called Rose’s Daughter, eat some truffle pasta and drink a marvelous dirty martini. We’d probably bar hop a little bit downtown Delray just for the sake of old times.

On Saturday we’d head out to the outdoor farmers market in Downtown West Palm Beach and sip some local ice coffee and buy some awesome treats from multiple vendors. Go to lunch at this traditional italian place called Al Fresco close to the water. Go home and hang out by the pool until sundown.
At night, get some dinner at Meat Market and head over to Le Bar for some mingling and wine.

Sunday polo! Oh yea, get our hats ready and head to the polo fields maybe for brunch, maybe after lunch for a match, stop by a friend’s tent and drink champagne until it’s time to head home and call it a night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my husband Jorge, who has been with me from the beginning and supports me at every single stage I reach. He is more than a husband, he is a partner in everything.
