We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystin Mitchell, CPA CFE and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My transition into starting my business was natural but unplanned. I have always been passionate about accounting and helping other people. Starting my business, which helps me guide and inform business owners about accounting and taxes to help lower their tax liability and plan for financial success, enables me to combine both my passions to add value to business owners. I enjoy what I do every single day.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Starting my business may have been the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever done. I performed a lot of research and did my best to set myself up for success, but there were so many unknowns. I cried and prayed but stepped out on faith, believing that God would direct my path, and that’s exactly what happened.
I would say what sets me apart from others is that I care about business owners and I use all 18 years of my accounting experience, knowledge gained from being a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Public Accountant and all of the professional skills I learned along the way to provide customized tax planning and accounting services in a way they can understand and quickly take action. My clients are not another tax return to me, they matter and I care about their journey and I want to see them succeed.
I’ve faced a lot o challenges along the way, but I have overcome them through honesty, perseverance, maintaining a positive mindset and finding the lesson during the challenge.
I truly love accounting, taxes and helping other, I am energized by the work my firm performs. I am happy to be of service to the community and I look forward to giving back with my new financial literacy program for teens.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in Houston…….
Memorial park for a morning walk
Grace’s or Lucille’s for brunch
Art museum
Eddie V’s for happy hour and a light dinner
Finishing the day with live jazz music
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think the foundation of my success is two fold. First, my family and close friends have always been very supportive of me and my business providing encouragement, becoming clients, sending constant referrals and being transparent about my new ideas to make accounting, tax tips, strategy and general business knowledge instantly available to business owners with the upcoming launch of my new app. My dad was my first business client, and my older sister was my first tax client. They have both always believed in me and supported me way before I ever officially started my business.
Secondly, I have always been a self-motivated person always eager to learn and develop myself professionally. Ive benefited from the motivational teachings of Brian Tracy, Robin Sharma author of The 5AM Club (this book changed my life) and finally the teachings of Les Brown and Daymond John.
