We had the good fortune of connecting with Kasi Nayles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kasi, how do you think about risk?
Some of the most significant decisions I’ve made in my life involved taking major risks. In 2010, I ventured off to Howard University in Washington, DC. At just 17 years old, none of my friends were attending, and I had never experienced living on my own. It was a massive leap of faith, one that I now look back on with immense gratitude.
Interestingly, I seem to have developed a fondness for taking risks. This inclination led me to pursue graduate studies at the University of the Arts in London and later to establish FOR THE FEW Intimates. Risks have undeniably shaped both my personal and professional life, and I anticipate continuing to embrace them, knowing that there’s always something extraordinary awaiting on the other side.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I founded FOR THE FEW Intimates out of frustration with the limited nude options available for women of color. Our nude underwear is intentionally and sustainably crafted, with women of color at the forefront of every decision. FOR THE FEW Intimates prioritizes ultimate comfort without compromising on fashion, function, or the planet. We launched just seven months ago, and it’s been an exhilarating journey since then.
I embarked on this journey after quitting my job three years ago and taking a leap of faith. Despite my educational background, there were many moments when I felt completely lost. Challenges, trials, and lessons awaited me at every turn. Initially, these hurdles seemed insurmountable and sometimes left me feeling defeated. However, I’ve learned not to turn a moment into a mountain along the way, which has been one of the most valuable lessons of this journey.
I want women to understand that we refuse to let the narrow definition of nude imposed by the beauty industry dictate its meaning to us. FOR THE FEW celebrates women of all shades, sizes, and backgrounds.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend happens to visit in March, we won’t miss the chance to attend the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. It’s the epitome of a Texan experience, complete with thrilling rides, entertainment, and mouthwatering food. I’m certain we’ll have a blast soaking in the festivities!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom is someone I don’t think I could ever thank enough for her unwavering support, love, and mentorship. She has been by my side every step of the way, always encouraging every dream I’ve had, no matter how big or small. I owe a significant part of my success story to her guidance and belief in me.
I also want to give a shoutout to all the incredible women and women-owned businesses we collaborate with to bring FOR THE FEW to life. It’s incredibly fulfilling to create a product that is crafted for women, by women.
