We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Simon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I started this as a hobby after losing my job for a bit. After a while I had people asking me to make custom items for them and it just grew from there. I had a lot of pieces I had made and no where to display them so they could be sold, so I started looking in to markets and ever since my first one I haven’t stopped. It’s been 3 years of doing this professionally and I love it. The highs, the lows, the unexpected achievements along the way have been immensely worth it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey as an artist hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding. I discovered resin art in 2021 during a challenging time in my life. After losing my job due to the unexpected passing of my mother, I struggled with my mental health and needed an outlet while searching for work. I started exploring resin art as a hobby, but it quickly turned into something much more. Although I eventually found another job, my art business began to grow, and I started booking more markets. This led to a difficult decision at work, which resulted in me being let go again. In hindsight, it was the push I needed to fully commit to LoveKraft Co., and I’ve been running it full-time ever since. The unwavering support of my local Houston community has been crucial to my success—I truly couldn’t have done it without them.

At LoveKraft Co., I create crystal-infused resin art and decor that is entirely handmade. I also craft small-batch oil perfumes, wire-wrapped jewelry, and resin jewelry. I’m always experimenting and adding new items to my shop, but one of my most beloved creations are the crystal-infused and floral skulls, each completely unique. Many of the flowers I use are foraged locally, and wild sunflowers—seen often along the roadsides here in Houston—are a particular favorite of mine.

One of my proudest moments happened in September 2023 when I had the opportunity to sell my art at Lana Del Rey’s sold-out concert in Austin. It was a surreal experience. As I set up my booth and listened to Lana’s soundcheck, I felt overwhelmed with emotion. That night will always hold a special place in my heart.

What sets me apart as an artist is my commitment to innovation and creating pieces that are not only beautiful but functional. I specialize in crafting one-of-a-kind resin decor, including shelves, clocks, propagation vases, purses, and even tables. Every item is carefully designed and handcrafted, ensuring that no two pieces are ever alike. I love pushing the boundaries of resin art, experimenting with different techniques, colors, and materials to create something truly special. When someone acquires a piece from me, they can be sure it’s a unique work of art that reflects my passion, creativity, and dedication to originality.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were showing someone around Houston, we’d kick things off with a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) and the Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS). These spots are a must for soaking in art and history, and we’d definitely make our way to the Cockrell Butterfly Center for a bit of natural beauty. Afterward, we’d swing by the Contemporary Arts Museum and the Menil Collection to check out some cutting-edge and inspiring exhibits.

And you know, come Saturday, we’d absolutely have to hit up Macabre Market to support all the incredible local artists and creatives. It’s such a cool, one-of-a-kind experience! Then, on Sunday, we’d hop in the car for a mini road trip to Galveston —because what’s better than a day at the beach, soaking up the sun and sea? Perfect weekend vibes, right?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate a shoutout to Jennifer aka Desert Selkie/Coordinator of Macabre Market – the best darn market in Houston! I don’t think I would have half the following I did if it weren’t for her and the amazing monthly market she puts together! She’s so supportive and just a lovely soul. And all the work she puts in to the markets make it my favorite place to be. So if you’re ever looking for something to do, stop by and say hey to us all!

I also can’t leave out my bestie for the restie, Rego Rodriguez. He is my rock and I don’t know what I would do without him! He’s there to help drive me to markets, set up, breakdown, and he is my biggest cheerleader and best salesman. I love you, Rego!
