We had the good fortune of connecting with Sahar Paz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sahar, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision I’ve made that has contributed to my success is prioritizing my health. Like Jeff Bezos, who takes time to putter around in the morning to get his brain ready for important decisions, I believe that taking care of your well-being isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. Prioritizing my health allows me to stay creative, think clearly, and make better decisions. It also builds a strong foundation to take risks, both personally and professionally. Most importantly, it sets a powerful example for my community. When you value yourself, others will value the work you do, and that has been key to my growth and success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is that I’ve always been driven by a deep passion for helping people find and own their voices. This comes from my personal experience as a refugee of war, where my voice and culture were taken from me. That early experience shaped my belief in the power of using your voice to claim your place in the world.
Professionally, this passion evolved into my work with **Own Your Voice Strategy Firm** and the publication of my book, *Find Your Voice*. After six successful years of running my firm, I’m now building **House of Paz**, inspired by my battle with cancer. Through this journey, I’ve embraced the three pillars that helped me heal: words, wellness, and wardrobe. These pillars gave me strength during my treatment and have become the foundation of this next chapter in my work.
It hasn’t been easy. There were moments of doubt and challenges that forced me to rethink my path, but I learned to trust my story. I’ve learned that the key to overcoming challenges is to embrace your truth fully and without shame. One of the biggest lessons I want to share is that you are not defined by your hardships—you are defined by how you rise above them.
Since going public with my cancer diagnosis, I’ve received more respect, more press, and more business opportunities. My story has opened doors because people resonate with authenticity. I want the world to know that you are not your diagnosis or your struggles; you are a story of strength, perseverance, and endless possibilities waiting to unfold.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d plan a mix of wellness, creativity, and great food. We’d kick off the day with an energizing yoga session at **Yoga Dragon** with Steve, followed by a visit to **Brass Tacks**, a vibrant spot where we could fuel our creativity over coffee and brainstorm ideas. For lunch, we’d keep it light and healthy with a delicious meal at **Loving Hut**.
In the afternoon, we’d head to the **Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH)** to soak in some culture, and then enjoy happy hour at the museum’s café, sipping cocktails while discussing the exhibits. For dinner, we’d treat ourselves to an elegant meal at **Cocody**, a perfect place to indulge and unwind after a day filled with creativity and exploration. Throughout the week, we’d sprinkle in boutique shopping, art galleries, and nature walks to round out the perfect blend of fun and inspiration.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe so much of my success to the incredible support system around me. First and foremost, my friends and family have been my rock throughout my journey as a serial entrepreneur. They’ve stood by me through every twist and turn—whether I was starting a new venture, navigating challenges, or celebrating milestones. I can think of countless examples: my family giving me the space and encouragement to pivot when I needed to, and my friends showing up at my events, offering advice, or simply being there to listen when things got tough. Their belief in me gave me the courage to keep pushing forward, even when the path was unclear.
I also want to give a special shoutout to my publisher, Leann Garms with BBL Publishing. Leann has been a true champion in my corner for over a decade. She helped me bring my first memoir to life, and her unwavering support over the years has been invaluable. Leann not only believed in my story but also in my voice, and that belief has propelled me in more ways than I can count. Her guidance, mentorship, and friendship have been integral to my journey as both an author and entrepreneur.
These people and relationships have helped shape who I am and where I am today, and I’m deeply grateful for their love, encouragement, and support.
