We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Oneil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic career because music has always been a powerful force in my life. Growing up, I played music constantly and found joy in its ability to evoke emotions and connect people. However, I initially struggled with the decision to pursue it professionally. I tried my hand at architecture, thinking it would offer stability and financial success. Plus I had lived in Germany and seen so much history, it made sense.
That changed during a psychedelic experience at a Pink Floyd cover band music festival in Ohio. The music, the atmosphere, the party favors.. things I felt during that time made me realize that I needed to follow my true passion. I wasn’t happy in architecture, despite the potential for a good income. I knew I had to shift my focus to music, where I could fully express myself and help others bring their visions to life with my talents. Happiness isn’t quantifiable.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am Matt O’Neil, a 14x Platinum and 3x Gold Certified Audio Engineer, Producer, and Songwriter based in Houston, TX. I’ve worked with artists like Swae Lee, Travis Scott, NLE Choppa, Odetari, NBA Youngboy, Don Toliver, and more. Ive always played music and played in bands, I pursued a degree in music at Berklee College of Music and have been a professional engineer and producer ever since. It wasn’t easy, there were many sleepless nights and as an engineer you are basically self employed and responsible for keeping your work ethic and paying your own taxes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d definitely hit Austin and then go out into Lago Vista for some boating and tubing. Rooftop bars, good food, that’s the vibe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family for their support
