We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Ndukong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenda, do you have a budget?
Yes, I have a budget. As a new business owner it is imperative that I am mindful of finances, especially in today’s economy where quality products are getting more expensive. Honestly my business has caused me to dip in personal funds to meet my goals especially when I first started. I had to make lifestyle adjustments like shopping less for myself and more for my business. The yield is greater when you put in more as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of my growth in clientele in such a short period of time. It feels great when people admire my work as a makeup artist. I started doing makeup on people in high school however I stopped for a while and only applied makeup on myself or my sisters. Going back to makeup later on caused me to forget certain things due to no practice. Side bar, doing makeup on yourself versus on others is very different. I had to practice a lot.
My brand is about making people feel beautiful inside and outside. Pairing internal and external beauty is the experience I want to provide as a makeup artist.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question! I have outgrown brunch, so it’d be dinner at Traveler’s Table then Off The Record for good music and drinks.
For something more casual but super fun, my friends and I would go to Tikilas. Tikilas is laid back and so much fun with a variety of food trucks to choose from.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would give a shoutout to my boyfriend, Alex. He is the one who encouraged me to go for it when I doubted myself. My sisters have also been supportive and always provide great feedback.
