We had the good fortune of connecting with Sumitra Mukherjee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sumitra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own photography business was deeply personal. As a parent, I’ve always cherished capturing every little moment with my own children, from their tiny newborn days to their energetic toddlerhood, and joy-filled childhood. Those photos became treasured memories, and I realized how much I loved the art of storytelling through photography.

I wanted to help other families create those same lasting memories—especially families with children—because I know how fleeting those moments can be. Besides, through my vision and creating a unique setup, followed by my editing process, I get to enhance these captured moments and make them highlight the beauty and emotion in each scene. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see my clients’ faces light up when they see the love and laughter of their family preserved in such a unique way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a window into my soul—a heartfelt expression of my passion for capturing fleeting moments and weaving them into timeless masterpieces. Each creation is born from a wellspring of imagination, where no two visions are alike. Through meticulously crafted setups, thoughtfully chosen location and backdrops, and carefully curated props, I try to breathe life into every frame. My dedication to detail and artistry in editing transforms ordinary images into extraordinary tales, setting my work apart in a sea of photographers.

For me, photography is not merely pressing a shutter; it is the joy of preserving emotions, connections, and memories. Each image is a vessel of magic and meaning, a lasting testament to the beauty of life’s most cherished stories and a window to look back. Yet, the pursuit of uniqueness—a vision that honors the individuality of every subject—can be a delicate dance. Crafting something extraordinary for each moment, something that resonates with the soul of the people within the frame, is both the challenge and the joy that fuels my creative spirit.

Another big challenge in the business side has been reaching out to the broader audience who truly appreciate the value of my creations. The marketing aspect has been a learning curve, but I’ve embraced it with enthusiasm. Building a brand that is truly appreciated by clients requires consistent effort, creativity, and perseverance.

Nothing about this journey has been easy, but I firmly believe that anything meaningful takes hard work. Every challenge has been an opportunity to learn and grow, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed exploring both the artistic and business sides of my work.

I want the world to know that my goal is to create art that families treasure for generations—images that don’t just capture moments but celebrate them in a way that’s unforgettable. It’s been a fun and rewarding journey, and I’m excited to continue growing and sharing my passion with others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the north suburb area of Houston, in The Woodlands. I enjoy this part of town as it is naturally very different from the rest of the city. A few places that I would take them to enjoy the nature would be the Jones Forest or the Mitchell Preserve. Also, the City Center near the waterway is very pretty and a lots of good restaurants to explore. We would hang out near the waterway for some TexMex or a drink. Market Street is another awesome place to explore and shop. If we want to go close to downtown Houston, I love the Rice Village area, Harman Park, Miller Outdoor Theatre etc. Going to seashore is also a short drive away to the historic Galveston Island and enjoy the ocean and delicious seafood.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Sujata Setia, she is a fine art photographer, based in London, UK. She is an incredible artist herself. She has helped me to take my photographic skills to the next level.
