Meet Lisa Marie Beatty | Custom Cookie Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Marie Beatty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa Marie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The unwavering support from my husband and family. Their encouragement, belief in my abilities, and constant presence have provided the foundation I needed to pursue my dreams with confidence. From providing hands on help during busy times to offering emotional reassurance during challenging moments, their involvement has been a driving force behind my growth. This support not only fuels my determination but also reminds me that success is not a solitary journey, it is built on the love and strength of those who stand by you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been drawn to creative outlets, whether it was scrapbooking, making baby clothes, photography, or refinishing furniture. Creativity has been a constant in my life, but my journey into cookie decorating began unexpectedly in October 2017. While planning a Halloween party, I stumbled across beautifully decorated sugar cookies on Pinterest. They immediately caught my eye, and I decided to learn how to make them for my event.
I spent two days immersed in online tutorials, and then a friend and I gave it a try. Our first cookies weren’t perfect, but I found that out all of the crafty roads my life has taken me down, decorating cookies was where my heart was. There was something about the process—the combination of art and precision—that resonated with me.
I shared those first attempts on social media, and to my surprise, friends and colleagues started asking me to make cookies for their own events. That’s when ‘Sugar Bites Custom Cookies’ was born. For years, I juggled cookie orders after hours and on weekends while working as a legal assistant.
In 2021, with the support of my husband, I retired from my 25-year legal career to focus on my cookie business full-time. Now I decorate cookies for birthdays, showers, weddings, anniversaries, holidays and even corporate events. I have decorated cookies for movie premiers and have even had the opportunity to work with Nike for a collaboration they did with Nordstroms on the release of a new Air Force One sneaker.
Some of my best clients use my printed logo cookies as swag for their trade shows or as gifts for their clients to keep their brands top of mind. There is just something special about people trusting your art to bring a little magic to their events. It is a high worth chasing. Knowing that my creations play a small role in their celebrations is a feeling that keeps me inspired and motivated every day.
It hasn’t always been easy though. Learning how to run a small business full time definitely has its challenges but I would not change it for the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I’m not gonna lie, I’m almost 50 so I live a pretty low key life, but I love food! There are a few places that are a must any time I have friends visit from out of town. City Center is close by and there are so many restaurants over there so its hard to go wrong, but if we are looking for the best fajitas, Cyclone Anayas is our go to. There is no beating the melted chipotle butter that comes with the fajitas there. Dish Society is on our itinerary for brunch, Resilience Viet Kitchen and Bar which is right outside of our neighborhood has outstanding food and their Pear Is 13 (Paris 13) is my absolute favorite cocktail. I also make an effort to let people know that the best time to come to Housston is Rodeo season. Its the most fun time of the year for me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a huge chunk of credit and recognition to my husband and my parents. My husband played a pivotal role in my journey by encouraging me to leave my job as a legal assistant and follow my passion for cookie decorating. His belief in me gave me the courage to take that leap. My parents also deserve a huge thank you—they step in and lend a hand whenever things get busy. Their support has been invaluable, and I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
