Meet Makhaila Elder | Brow Artist & Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Makhaila Elder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Makhaila, how do you think about risk?
I have always been a risk taker. I see risk as a necessary part of growth. In business, when you play it safe you sometimes stay stagnant, and before I moved to Houston that was exactly how I felt. One of the biggest risks I have taken is leaving behind my clientele in Nashville, TN to start completely over in Houston, TX — but it is one of the best decisions I have ever made in life. Moving allowed me to notice a gap in the beauty industry and an area where my expertise could be needed so I started offering Brow Lamination & Brow Tint services. This meant taking a step back from lash extensions, which I initially built my business on, and start focusing more on brows. That risk led me to create Enhanced Brows & Beauty and, later, The Enhanced Academy. Taking that leap allowed me to not only grow as a beauty professional but also become an educator, helping other artists build successful businesses. Now, I approach risk with confidence, knowing that every challenge is an opportunity to learn and elevate, personally and professionally. I don’t take risks blindly, but I also don’t let fear stop me from stepping into my next level.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my beauty journey in 2017 with lash extensions and later found my true passion in brows. Transitioning my business was a risk, and there were moments of doubt, but I stayed committed to my vision. One of the biggest challenges I faced was navigating the industry without a clear roadmap. I didn’t have mentorship or guidance in the beginning, which is why I’m so passionate about being that resource for others now.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success doesn’t come from playing it safe. You have to be willing to evolve, take risks, and trust the process. I want the world to know that my brand is built on passion, dedication, and a mission to uplift beauty professionals. Enhanced Brows & Beauty is about transformation—both in the brows and in the business behind them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Omg! I still cannot wait for the day all my besties come in town at once. Haha. But seriously a perfect week trip would for sure consist of lots of food. We love to eat and palettes are very broad so we’d definitely hit up Traveler’s Table for brunch/dinner and their sister location Traveler’s Cart for maybe happy hour or lunch. I’d also take them to Blue Sake Sushi or RA for a sushi date. We’d most definitely hit The Galleria for some shopping. But I have to make sure we have activities in there that we’d all enjoy for some fun so we’re going to a Rockets or Astros games, 40all for maybe some games and pickle ball, and Lov3 and Seaside for a the nightlife vibe,

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my parents. Their unwavering support, love, and encouragement have been the foundation of my success. Whether it was pushing me to follow my passion, reminding me of my worth, or simply being there through the ups and downs, they’ve always been my biggest cheerleaders— even when they couldn’t see my vision they’ve been there. Their work ethic and resilience have shaped the way I approach my business, and even their own entrepreneurial stories have influenced my decision to become an entrepreneur myself. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
