We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrianna ”AJ” Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adrianna ”AJ”, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Well ,what I think about risk is that it has to be taken, or you will never learn how to gain and recognize the different variations of reward that comes from it. The role that taking risk has played in my life is first : I learned a lot about my character. For instance, I am always a student. Which transcended over into my life/career , and I believe by me realizing that it molded my mindset into cultivating a more peaceful outlook on life . The highs and lows of making my dream of being an On-air Radio personality come to fruition really made me face my fear of criticism and learning how to trust my intuition.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started as a model in 2006 which transcended into me hosting a music video t.v, show in 2007-2010. I always had a love and interest in radio. So I started networking with a lot of DJs here in Houston and learning the technical side of radio which lead me to becoming a Audio/ Visual engineer and producing radio shows for influential people like Texas State Rep. Jolanda Jones, The legendary Rushion McDonald and a variety of other notable people. In the midst of doing that I learned to find my own voice on the radio and created my own show called the ”Chillhop” Show in 2018. So now I’m an On-air Radio Shoe host/ Audio engineer for my own show called ‘The Sauce” What sets me apart from the other DJs and MCs in Houston is that my persona is genuinely authentic which bridges the gap between age groups of all backgrounds and having that quality is one of the many things that I’m proud of. It wasn’t always easy being a mother of 3 girls , living from pilar to post ,dealing with heartbreak and disappointments, and the way the I overcame those challenges was by having a solid support system to push me along when I wanted to give up. I’m showing my daughters that they can accomplish their goals despite the circumstances. The lessons that I learned along the way was you can’t run away from your God given talent, and the trials and tests that come along the way will refine you to become the best version of yourself spiritually, mentally and emotionally. What I would like the world to know about my brand and story is that no matter what or who tries to get in your way of accomplishing your goals and dreams you can’t stop and you can’t hide from beautiful ride of life that God has for you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to hang and hide-out at this vegan restaurant called Mo-Betta Brews on the outskirts of downtown. They have the best black lemonade and shroom and grits in the city . I’m also a vinyl album junkie so I get a lot of my favorite albums from there. Then from there I would take my friend to this spot called ”Off the Record” and that soley because of the atmosphere . When I’m feeling adventurous I would take my friend to Typhoon Texas .It’s a water park that has the best drinks and food .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well the people that I want to give thanks to is my every band director I ever had and my 6th grade Principal Mr. Todd Armelin.. My band directors saw my talent at an early age by noticing that I had a true passion for music did not hesitate to teach me how to play the beautiful bass instrument called the Tuba. Mr. Armelin really instilled in me on how to be a well rounded performer. I would also want to give thanks to my family for teaching me tough and loving lessons. I also can’t forget my true friends that always keep me accountable and on the path of constant growth, Meghan and Paul Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Krystal Banks,Soraya Wilson, Ramon Smith,Joseph Durley, Jeremy Joulvett ,R.J, Edwards, Brian Barefield, Delvin Thomas,Steve Anderson,Dawn Paul,my mentor Jack Frost and Robert Gamble.
