Meet Reise Pomroy | Residential Remodeler

We had the good fortune of connecting with Reise Pomroy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reise, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think about risk daily. As a residential remodeler, accurately calculating risks is paramount. One missed specification or overlooked portion of the scope can drastically alter the project’s direction and ultimately impact your margin.
As entrepreneurs, we often have to evaluate risk in a different sort of sense than others do. We have to weigh the financial impact on our family, calculate opportunity cost and make overall decisions that are just tough. Tough on our kids, tough on our spouses, and mostly sometimes ourselves. Risks represent cautions or red flags but we always have to remember that risks can also represent opportunities.
About eight years ago, I made the biggest leap of my life. I left a comfortable corporate job in Detroit and moved to Houston to be with my new son Mannix and his mother, Kristin.
Not long after, we got married and welcomed our second child, Kennedy. By 2020, I was working in oil and gas as an electrical technician when we found out Kristin was pregnant with our youngest, Abby. Just a few months later—two weeks before my 30th birthday—I was laid off. That moment forced a choice: play it safe and look for another job, or bet on myself. I chose the latter.
I started my own business with no safety net, just the determination to build something lasting for my family. Looking back, every meaningful moment in my life has come from taking a risk—leaving comfort, chasing purpose, and stepping into the unknown. Risk has never been easy, but it’s been essential. It’s shaped who I am, both personally and professionally.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own Pomroy Builders Group, a “small on purpose” residential remodeling company based in Friendswood. We prioritize customer experience and craftsmanship, with a strong emphasis on premium materials, proven methods, and building science.
To say that making money in remodeling is difficult would be an understatement. Since 2020, we’ve navigated some wild business cycles—and with no clear end in sight, we’re staying prepared for continued turbulence in the market. By staying lean and refining our process, we’ve created a system that reduces headaches around design, budgeting, and planning. That gives us a competitive edge when it comes to communication and transparency with our clients.
We hyper-focus on delivering a high-quality finished product—without losing sight of the budget. Over the past year, we’ve refined our approach into something we’re genuinely proud of.
My goal is to be at the forefront of quality and process in the Houston remodeling scene and eventually focus on building custom homes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I am little biased but the southeast side of Houston has so much to offer – music at T Bone Toms in Kemah, a wide range of Tex Mex (my kid’s favorite is Jimmy Changas), sushi and Thai spots. Grab a beer at Boondoggles or Galveston Bay Brewing or spend the day on the seawall in Galveston. Hands down best ice cream at Friendswood Scoop Shop (also a family favorite) and hands down best italian and pizza at Birra Poretti’s in Friendswood! One more tip: Yard House in Baybrook Mall..get the nachos!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and always—my wife, Kristin Pomroy. She’s my best friend, my biggest supporter, and the reason I keep pushing forward.
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and guidance of my parents, Ross and Rose, and my in-laws, Gary and El Cavey.
Early in my career, I was fortunate to be surrounded by incredible mentors at that “comfortable” corporate job. They played a huge role in shaping me—not just professionally, but as a person—and helped make that position as rewarding as it was.
And of course, I have to shout out my clients. Your trust and support have been everything.
