We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth O’Neill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, how do you think about risk?
Sometimes you have to take risks in life just to grow and learn—even if things don’t work out the way you hoped, there’s always something to take from the experience. I’ve learned that timing plays a big role too. What feels right in one season of life might not be right in another.

When I first started Lizzie’s Wax Bar, I didn’t have much money at all. I found the cheapest rent I could, and honestly, the place needed a lot of TLC. It wasn’t fancy, but I made it mine with what I had. I opened on my wedding anniversary—I even missed celebrating that day for my soft opening—but the turnout was amazing, and I knew I was onto something.

I worked my tail off to build my business, and eventually, I was blessed with the opportunity to move into a new, more professional location. That move was a huge risk. It could’ve been the end of Lizzie’s Wax Bar, or it could’ve been the next step toward something bigger. Thankfully, it was the latter. Now I’m surrounded by incredible women who specialize in things like injections, permanent jewelry, and lashes—and since moving, my business has grown so much.

Taking that risk changed everything for me. Sometimes you just have to bet on yourself and step out in faith.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Lizzie’s Wax Bar, I specialize in full-body sugaring—from head to toe. While I do offer hard wax for areas like the nose and ears, my primary method is sugaring. What sets my business apart is the type of sugar I use: it’s infused with prebiotics that help support healthy skin, and it doesn’t contain citric acid. Most sugar waxes are made with sugar, water, and lemon—but lemon can throw off your pH balance. By eliminating that ingredient, my sugar is much gentler and better for the body.

One of the biggest misconceptions I face is that sugaring is more painful than traditional waxing. That’s simply not true. Sugaring adheres only to the hair, not the skin, which actually makes it a less painful experience. A lot of people form their opinions based on horror stories they see online. I always encourage my clients to stay off social media when researching waxing and instead talk to a professional—or even a trusted friend who’s had it done. Personal experience and proper education are key.

What I’m most proud of is stepping into the training world. I’ll soon be offering sugaring training locally, and eventually all across the U.S. This has been a big leap of faith for me, and I’m excited to share the technique with others and help them build confidence in their skills.

My journey hasn’t been easy. Clientele fluctuates, and that can be hard emotionally and financially—but I’ve learned to keep my head high and trust the process. I’ve overcome a difficult childhood and challenges that carried into adulthood, and through it all, I’ve learned how to create a safe, comforting space for others. When someone lays on my table, they’re not just receiving a service—they’re being cared for in a way that comes from real-life understanding and compassion.

At the end of the day, my mission is to help others grow—both in beauty and in confidence.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I was showing some friends around my area, the first thing we’d do is rent a boat on Lake Conroe and have a fun, relaxing lake day. It’s the perfect way to soak up the sun and enjoy the water. After that, we’d grab some amazing Mexican food—there are so many good spots around here. We’ve also got a few local wineries that are super cute and great for sipping and catching up.

Of course, no girls’ trip is complete without a little shopping! Montgomery and Conroe have some of the cutest boutiques, so we’d definitely spend some time browsing and supporting local businesses.

I’d also take them to the place I work—JaLaine Aesthetics and Wellness. We’d get some permanent jewelry with Champagne Jewelry Co. by Lisa (it’s such a fun experience and a perfect keepsake from the trip). If they wanted a little extra volume on their lashes, I’d send them to my girl Moira—she owns Whole Lotta Lashes and is amazing at what she does! And last but not least, who doesn’t love a girls’ trip that includes a relaxing facial or a little Botox? Kathy, who owns the med spa, is incredible and always makes everyone feel beautiful and confident.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I have to give all the glory to the Lord. He answered my prayers and revealed my purpose when I was lost and unsure. There were so many times I wanted to give up on my career—I felt defeated, tired, and uncertain—but somehow, I always found myself coming back to waxing. It’s where my heart kept leading me.

I couldn’t have made it without the people God placed in my life. My amazing husband and my beautiful mom never gave up on me or my dream. When I was ready to walk away, they stood by my side and gave me the push I needed to keep going. Even when I fell flat on my face in the beginning, they helped pick me up, dusted me off, and reminded me who I was and what I was capable of.

My kids have always been my biggest why. I want them to see what it looks like to chase a dream, to get back up when life knocks you down, and to never settle. I want to teach them that even when things get hard, you don’t quit—you keep showing up and you shoot for the stars.

I’m also beyond thankful for my sisters and my brother, who have stood by me through every season. And to my mother-in-law, who has believed in me and supported me along the way—thank you from the bottom of my heart.

None of this journey has been easy, but it’s been worth every tear, every lesson, and every leap of faith. I am where I am today because of the love, faith, and support that surrounded me—and I’ll never take that for granted.
