We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to do something creative for a living.

What should our readers know about your business?
I did not take out a business loan to start this business. I invested every penny back into the business until I started to make a profit making me debt free.

This meant I needed to learn to do several different jobs such as marketing, teaching, bookkeeping and studio management to name a few.

I have learned that I cannot do everything on my own and I had to recognize my shortcomings and utilize the resources around me that did not require a lot of money. I learned to trade services and skill with others so that each situation had a win/win result.

My studio is not just a place to learn about ceramics, it is also a place to gather socially to get to know others from several different social and economic backgrounds. We all share a common interest that draws us together. The studio is small and makes it easy to interact and get to know each other better. I want everyone who comes to the studio to realize they can do anything they try (sometimes with a little struggle along the way) and be successful. I want them to know I believe in them more than they believe in themselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would do the Aggieland Art Trail to visit all the visual and fine art places around Bryan/College Station.

The George Bush Library.

Aggieland Safari.

We would play with clay.

Go to the Queen Theater in Bryan.

See a show at Opas.

We would take a hike in Huntsville State Park.

Go fishing at Lake Bryan.

Restaurants
Gringo’s
Tad’s Cajun
Messina Hof Winery

We would sit under the tree in the yard and just enjoy each other’s company.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Rachel Norris with Joy Pottery.

The many students who became friends from my studio.
