We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melanie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My husband and I have been in the Antique business for over 35 years.

We started selling in Antique malls and at La Bahia during Round Top Warrenton week. After renting space at La Bahia for 7 years, we bought the property for sale at the Y in Carmine and named it the County Line Antique Show. After a few years, we also bought the property across the street.

After 10 years of running the Show, we sold the County Line Antique Show and opted to buy a large Cotton gin in Whitehall to start a one day a month sale. We named it Texas Pickers 1st Saturday Antique Sale and Flea Market. Now currently in our 15th year.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Owning and operating a small business is never easy.

Perseverance is the key. You can’t hit a Home run every time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take her to the Original Whitehall Cafe located on the same property as the Cotton Gin. Also take her antique shopping in Navasota, Bryan College Station, and Huntsville.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All our loyal customers.
