We had the good fortune of connecting with Malcome Childs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Malcome, how does your business help the community?
“My barbershop is more than a place for a haircut — it’s a space where lives are uplifted. With every client I serve, I aim to restore confidence, provide clarity, and offer a listening ear. I’m honored to be seen as a trusted guide in my community, helping people navigate life’s biggest decisions and empowering them to become the best version of themselves.”

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a luxury barbershop built on pride, precision, and purpose. What sets me apart is simple: it’s the “Magic.” That’s why they call me The Barber Magician. Every haircut is crafted with intention, excellence, and a touch of something special you can’t teach.

My journey wasn’t easy, and I’m proud of that. I built my business the old-school way — long before social media, when success meant stepping out into the world, shaking hands, and earning trust one person at a time. I spent days handing out cards and flyers, introducing myself to strangers, and building real connections. Those experiences taught me the people skills that later became the foundation of the high-level customer service I’m known for today.

What many don’t know is that becoming a barber wasn’t my first plan — it was my last option. After trying everything else, I reached a turning point. I woke up in a jail cell one day and made a promise to myself: when I got out, I would become a barber. That decision changed my life. It gave me purpose, discipline, and a gift I could share with the world.

Today, every cut I perform is a reminder of how far I’ve come — and proof that with vision, hard work, and faith, you can turn your story into your strength.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend came to visit for a week, trust me — we’re having a good time. First stop? Food. And I’ve got this thing where I love putting my friends onto vegan spots. My go-to is Pythagoras — the menu goes crazy, the options are endless, and they never miss.

After we eat good, we’re hitting some live music and grabbing a couple drinks to keep the vibe going. And of course, we’ve gotta swing by Discovery Green and Hermann Park — nothing beats the outdoor energy out there. Basically, if you hang with me for a week, you’re gonna eat good, vibe good, and create memories for real.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
“I would like to recognize Kevin Aregbe, also known as Kevo Arts. His exceptional talent and support have played a pivotal role in my journey. Without his influence, I may never have had the opportunity to pursue my dreams.”
