We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheree Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheree, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk is needful. In every important decision or transition I’ve made has required a level of risk to excel a baseline. From corporate America I learned quickly that a position or power doesn’t equate to preparedness. Success is based upon steps and risk-based decisions & actions.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Creativity has been part of my language since grade school. Long before titles or paychecks, I was expressing ideas through visuals, storytelling, and drawing. While I still currently work in healthcare, my art has always lived alongside me—not as a hobby, but as a calling that never went quiet.

What sets me apart is lived experience. I’ve climbed corporate ladders, managed responsibility, and learned discipline in high-pressure environments. None of my success—creative or professional—came easily. I’ve had to build confidence, consistency, and resilience through seasons of self-doubt, limited resources, and starting over more than once. Each challenge forced me to refine my voice instead of abandon it.

Along the way, I learned a powerful truth: fulfillment doesn’t always follow money or status. No matter how high I climbed professionally, nothing compared to the fullness I feel when I’m creating—whether that’s shaping a visual concept, filming a reel, or stepping into a photoshoot that tells a story. Creation grounds me. It reminds me who

I want the world to know that when God puts it in your hands… don’t question the timing – surrounding yourself by support is key, and don’t let up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Aww Man! So many great places in Houston. All my friends live here, but since I no longer be “outsideee” as much lol. I’d take them to the woodland personally because it’s closer to where I stay now for shopping. I love Papadeaux and there’s a new steakhouse called Maldos off 45.

Then of course we have to take it back to the roots. We’re going to Third Ward, snapping a picture by the new sign through the community that Beyoncé touched, then hitting up Spivey’s, The Spot, and My momma’s house.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I thank God. My faith keeps me centered and reminds me that purpose is bigger than visibility. Right after that, I’m grateful for my husband. He is deeply successful in my eyes, a creative in his own right through music, and a constant source of inspiration. He supports my vision wholeheartedly and even steps into it with me—joining me on photoshoots and encouraging me to keep going when the work gets heavy.

I’m also incredibly thankful for the creative friends I’ve had and new peers who continue to fuel my inspiration. Watching them thrive has been a blessing in itself. Their fearlessness in owning their talent—especially within Black freelance and entrepreneurial spaces—has pushed me to believe bigger and move more boldly in my own journey. You can find them on my page somewhere supporting!

Lastly, I want to acknowledge DJ Fresh, who played a pivotal role in the promotional efforts for BVFW and is a successful Houston-based entrepreneur. His support was instrumental at the beginning of this new chapter, opening doors to a traveling boutique fashion week experience that became a defining opportunity in my creative path.
