Meet James Macik | Owner/Operator of Fish Head Water Sports

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Macik and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say the most important factor is to work hard and not give up. When you start something new, you are going to suck before you get good, so do your homework and prepare to work even harder to get better.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, my story is that I have been on my own since I was 16. I swept floors and cleaned the toilets in the shop I worked in I always wanted more and more after while I got into the welding trade and was pretty good at it I worked the oil and gas field mostly traveling all over the US after 28 years of living in a suit case I gave up the oil and gas field to teach welding school and started the fishing guide thing on my extra time then all the sudden my dream and passion became reality it wasent easy but if you love it enough it will be fun and hard at the sametime the lessons are don`t give up and expect the hard times and save for a rainy day here at Fish Head Water Sports my job is to put you on the fish and make sure you have a time you will be braging about for years to come for me it`s just absolute fun haveing people on my boat enjoying the day fishing for me dream come true.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were gonna spend some time here, we would definitely go to the fish pond restaurant for a chicken-fried steak and egg breakfast, then spend the day boating on Lake Conroe, making plans to fish the next day. Then, probably go to Conroe and visit the shops, buy some junk, stop off at the Pacific Yard House for a drink, and make it over to the Honor Cafe Conroe for some dinner fish all week long, stopping in at the North Lake Grill at Stow-A-Way marina for the Bigfoot burger to kill the hunger from being on the lake all day and don`t for get to slide over to Huntsville there is all kind of stuff to do there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Just want to give a Super big shout out to my Paw Paw Macik for the fishing skills he taught me, and my Paw Paw Dickson for living on Lake Conroe, where my brothers and I spent a lot of time fishing and learning the lake, just having fun as kids should be doing today also need to thank my lovely wife, Tonya for suppotring my crazy dreams and some of the local fishing guides like The Fish Dude, Jimmy`s Gone Fishing and Bradley`s guide service that shared some information and treated me like I was fishing on their boat, good competition makes for good fishing.
