We had the good fortune of connecting with Captain Dwayne Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Captain Dwayne, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

The most important factor behind our success is always being a good listener. Not only do we want to understand what our clients are asking for, but we want to be able exceed those expectations. Be honest; if you cannot do something, tell them. People are way more likely to still use you if you are up front and honest during  the entire process. Not only will you build a repeat client, but the main ingredient for any type of relationship trust. I don’t think a lot of people realize it is about building long-lasting client relationships that turn into friendships over time That will guarantee you long-term success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Texas Legacy Outdoors is a professional hunting and fishing outfitter based out of Matagorda, Texas. We specialize in whitetail hunts both in Texas and Alabama. Exotic hunts are out of Brackettville, Texas,  on Arrowhead Ranch, which is our home ranch. We also do dove, turkey and quail hunts along with some of the best bay and offshore fishing out of Matagorda, Texas, where our lodge is located. Being a full-service outfitter definitely sets us apart from others in our field. Our service does not end once we set your hunt or fishing trip up; it just begins. We will be joining you in the blind or in the boat where both Tim and I pride ourselves in building relationships with all of our clients to make their trips something they look forward to year after year. Growing up in the small town of Alvin, Texas, and being the son of a rice farmer, I was blessed to get to spend time day after day in the outdoors with family. Both my dad and grandfathers were avid outdoorsmen and I can’t remember a time we were not fishing from Galveston to Freeport, Texas, either in the bay or offshore. In the fall we were dove or duck hunting in the rice fields we worked in all summer and then deer hunted in the beautiful Texas hill country. It was some of the most memorable  times of my life and getting to enjoy it with my family was the best. This was the beginning of my passion for the outdoors that turned into a dream and fortunately, my career. The road has not always been easy and I, like most, have made a lot of mistakes along the way. But I do my best to learn from mistakes and always take these opportunities to better myself as a person. I think the biggest lesson I have learned is that you have to surround yourself with great people. Even if they don’t understand your dream and goals, they need to support you and them. Work hard! Nothing that comes easy is ever good and will not last. Be kind and thankful and listen to others. Not everything is always about you and you can learn a lot from others. Be honest and don’t be afraid to admit you made a mistake. None of us are perfect and we all learn from our failures. I hope at the end of this beautiful opportunity that we have had, people will know Texas Legacy Outdoors had a passion and love for the outdoors that is unmatched by most. We hope we leave behind a lot of folks that we helped and touch their lives in a positive way and they are better for it. I hope we create some better stewards of the outdoors and we all leave it better than we found it. It is a blessing getting to do what you love, so be thankful and make the most of your opportunities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Well, we would definitely be doing a little fishing down in Matagorda on the bay. I am sure we would be visiting the beautiful beach as well. We have some great little shops here in town where we would have to make a stop or two. Matagorda Outfitters or the Matagorda Tackle Shop are great places for any fishing angler with great local folks running it. Not a lot of food choices here, but the Waterfront Restaurant is delicious and Craig, the owner, is a great guy. We would definitely have to make it to Houston to hit Pappas Steak House, one of my favorites in the entire country. Also if you have never tried it, I would suggest Fogo De Chao. It  is another we would visit for some more amazing dinners. We would also check out the Texas Country Music scene with the Junior Gordon Band or see what Made in Texas radio has going on. We could even listen to TLO’s weekly Friday broadcast “Coffee with Captain Dwayne Green” on “Made in Texas Radio.” Of course,  we would have to close it out with some great Tex Mex at El Tiempo on Navigation Street.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several people that have allowed our success over the past several years. First and for most is my faith and the blessings I have received from God himself. With out my faith and the love of the good Lord, we would never be where we are today. Second is my parents. They have always stood behind me and supported me even when most would have given up on me. My dad gave me my passion and desire for the outdoors and my mother gave me the love for other people. Both of my parents went above and beyond in always encouraging me and letting me know that success comes from hard work and dedication. They taught me to always believe in yourself no matter what any naysayers may think about or say about you. Last but not least is my business partner Tim Munos. Tim’s joining Texas Legacy Outdoors was a true blessing. He may not be as outgoing as I am, but he definitely keeps me grounded and focused on the best decisions for us as an organization. He is very mechanically minded, which in our business is a leg up on the competition and saves us money in the long run. He is a great outdoorsman and very knowledgeable in both the fishing and hunting aspects of our business, which the clients love.
