We had the good fortune of connecting with B J and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi B, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to start my own business since I was in elementary. I would tell everyone I wanted to be an entrepreneur. When I got older, one day after trying everything else and still feeling unsatisfied, I decided to just get up and just start somewhere. Finally after all these years of the ideas, I felt more than ready to make a move. I went and bought a sewing machine and starting off making pocket tees to match kicks. I wore it around my hometown Houston promoting myself and it was also seen on celebrities in the early stages of my career. It wasn’t everything I wanted at the beginning but it gave an idea of what type of business I was building for the future.
What should our readers know about your business?
My brand is Mustard Seed Customs and it stems from the scripture of having faith the size of a Mustard Seed. My clothing is custom made clothing which includes t shirts, hats, socks, accessories, duffle bags etc. As a brand we believe, With faith the size of a mustard seed, Anything is possible! As the owner, I am excited about the journey I have been on and the journey in the future. I’ve met so many people, made great connections, and heard great stories about business accomplishments. The ride is so unpredictable and it definitely has its ups and downs. At first the downs hurt but you get use to them and learn how to manage while getting through them. I’ve learned many lessons In business and I use those lessons to provide advice to others of what I know and have experienced.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am from Houston born and raised. I love being from a big city with opportunities everywhere. The food here is very good. Downtown Houston is Beautiful and a popular park to visit is Discovery Green. If you’re ever in Houston some eating and hangout spots I would suggest visiting would be Breakfast Klub, Taste Bar, Turkey Leg Hut, Kamp, The Address, Flemings, Rouxpour, Steak 48, Seaside, and Sugar’s Cajun Cuisine.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother. My mom has been my support and backbone in anything I do or want to do. She is the one I go too to ask advice or just an ear to vent to about everything that happens in life and business. She has assisted me in so many ways with my businesses and I learned the hustle mentality from her. I would watch her when I was younger work hard along with my father to provide for our family. As a woman, I admired her so much and grew to model my mindset like her. I thank my mother for the love and support because without it from her, I wouldn’t be as far as I am today. She tells me how great I am even at times when I don’t think I’m that great. She is always ready to celebrate my accomplishments. I am forever grateful to God for the mother he has given me. She deserves credit and recognition along with me for all my accomplishments. I tell her all the time but Thank you so much mama, I love you! I pray many many many blessings to you for your heart and love.
