We had the good fortune of connecting with Ray Sanders and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ray, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To be honest, I work in corporate America and I came to the conclusion that I was tiered of trying to prove why I deserve a promotion to someone else. From the realization I said I might as well start my own thing and promote myself. Make my dreams come true.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a content creator to begin with. My art is the visuals I provide. I do my best to make wine entertaining and the start of that is by providing a nice visual esthetic. I believe that I create the best looking and feeling videos in the wine game. Not including the professionally backed people. I also feel like I am outside the regular wine influencer box where you just review wine and that’s it. I really try to make it entertaining and not preachy. I got here by just jumping out and doing it. I consume a lot of content online from YouTube to social media to tv. I soak up more than just the entertainment. I notice the trends in how videos look and feel. I notice the esthetic that gets the most views. I look at angles and types of cameras that give off they type of style I want. I really study filmmaking to provide the best results. It wasn’t difficult because I enjoyed it. Was it hard because it was new yes but when you like something you’ll try at it till you get it. I’ve learned that if you’re a content creator you have to innovate and evolve or you’ll die. If you don’t look out into the future and see the impact you’ll have then you’re not going to last long. I want them to know that wine isn’t elitist. Wine is for everyone and wine can be cool.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First spot I’d take them is Dandelion Cafe. The brunch there is bar none. I know the chef and owner and they do an amazing job at providing a dope environment for the Customer. Then to grab a drink we would go to Trez wine bar. Super dope black owned wine bar that is filled with culture. And for dinner we gotta go to killens steakhouse best steak I have tasted thus far.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First gotta shoutout God the most high. Without him none of this is possible. Shoutout to my mom for letting me dream and live outside the box. Shoutout to my beautiful Queen Zandee for encouraging me and helping build this brand Shoutout to Charliy my manager who really helps me out putting everything together. My friends for all the support and the books I’m reading now. The slight edge is big for me. Next is 0-1 a book about entrepreneurship.
