We had the good fortune of connecting with Niyi Neyo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Niyi Neyo, what inspires you?
I am inspired by the smile on people whenever I get to perform. That’s like a full tank in a vehicle for me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am both an artist (saxophonist) and a IT personnel.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Might be strange, but I barely go out so my favorite spot is my home, lol. I am an introvert, so I will rather stay indoor if I don’t have to perform at any event. Other than my home, my other spots are movies, and steakhouse.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of my first saxophone inspiration is Mike Aremu. One of Nigeria renowned saxophonist. After learning the saxophone, I started listening to great saxophonist like Fela, Kenny G, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Butler, Richard Elliot, Grover Washington jr. I am also inspired by other great artist like Bruno Mars, Usher, Chris Brown, Asa, John Legend. Most importantly, my greatest inspiration come from my 2 daughters. They keep me going, not just in my music journey but in life. The joy on their face whenever I am practicing or working from home. fuels me to push for more success.
