We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sean, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love barbecue. It all started when I played my first college football home game. Every home game our team bus would drive by the football alumni tailgate party in front of the stadium. That was when I smelled the aroma of BBQ. The smell took me back home to when my pops used to BBQ. After we won the game, some of my teammates and I bought steaks, chicken and ribs to BBQ. I began to BBQ after every home game with my teammates. Eventually, I concocted mixes of spices that were created specifically for the right meat. No more all-purpose seasonings. Each meat had a texture and flavor that needed attention. I carefully researched spices and determined which spice mixtures went best with the meat. Spices and meats need to have a great relationship. I allowed that great relationship to happen. JONZ 1 Original Dry Rubs is a business that manufactures and sells mixed spices. JONZ 1 Original Dry rubs has 7 dry rub seasonings that were carefully researched and created for all meats and all vegetables. I receive orders through my website www.jonz1.com and people find my product on Amazon. Once I receive the order, the dry rub is created, packaged and shipped priority mail. I specialize in seasonings. I also barbecue in cook offs and special catering events. I’m most proud of just growing my business from just an idea. I remember back in college, my teammates would come over after our football games and I would BBQ. I continued to grow from then to now. I’m still growing and adjusting to the environment. The beautiful thing of owning a business is adjusting to the times. If you do not adjust then expect to be left in the dust.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the outdoors. I love fishing, eating, comedy and music. Houston, TX is the perfect place for these things. The first place we would go is to a lake or the Gulf to fish. After fishing, I would find one of the thousands of great restaurants in Houston to eat at. If you find the right night at the comedy club Houston improv you just might find a funny comedian. Outdoor Concerts in The Woodlands, Downtown Houston are great!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my family and friends. Before I went public, I would send my family and friends samples of my dry rubs. They would critique it to the point where they all got on my nerves. Eventually, I took the feedback, soaked it in and learned from it. I made the necessary adjustments to make the perfect dry rubs. Family and friends continue to support me after I went public with JONZ 1 Original Dry Rubs.
