We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been painting and drawing. Anything that involves creativity interests me without a doubt. There is just something about trying to create a picture or idea that you have in your head and put it on a canvas. Art is something that’s yours, your expressions, your feelings and your creative soul.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My art is different and I think it’s not something that you see every day. You can go to a market event and see a handful of people that create the same art, jewelry or craft. I try and take my love for Day of the Dead and sugarskulls and create a picture of someone today. Whether it’s an individual, a family portrait, pop culture, or an animal. It’s not easy working full time and participating in events on weekends. Sometimes I feel like I have two jobs and work everyday but art is what I love. If I could paint and draw all day, believe me, I would. When events are coming up, I try and create a piece just for that particular event.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I’d take them to any of the pop up markets we participate in, the breweries we set up at, or art markets we participate in. And food? Why not support some of my vendor friends and enjoy some awesome food. I believe in supporting small businesses and helping each other out. Houston has a LOT to offer and you can always find something new and exciting. The art markets are set up in awesome areas and there is always something for everyone.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My husband is my biggest fan. He gives me ideas when I get in a rut and always looks at my work and isn’t afraid to give me criticism. When we participate in art events, he’s my number one salesman. He talks to people about my creations and tells customers what I can paint or create if they don’t see a particular piece.
