We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheneese Rohelia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheneese, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I feel that the most important factor behind my success is that I absolutely love what I do! I did not start painting because I was thinking of ways to make money . This business started simply because I fell in love with creating art and I believe that people have loved it as well because they can see the love that I put into it. As people offered to pay the business was created! Whether a piece has been purchased from an individual or not for various reasons they often tell me how it has inspired them and how they love and can see the love that I put in and as a creative that means a lot to me and my success because these things help keep me motivated even in those rare moments when I may not feel like it. Another key factor that I feel goes right along with the success of my brand as a creative is that I am selling a piece of me and people that have gotten to know me can feel my spirit or good vibes because I am a person that loves people and loves to see people happy and I believe that also comes through in my work/brand. People are not just buying into my art they are also buying into the person and I personally believe as a creative, it’s hard to love one without the other.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it comes to being a creative or visual artist, what I believe I am most proud of is seeing my actual vision come to life by my own hands. I am very proud of the fact that I even started and I started this journey very late in the game compared to many other awesome creatives that I have ran across or gotten to know. I believe that I am further along in my career professionally from when I started for a few reasons, but my top reasons would be that I am totally in love with what I do, which makes me very motivated to do it. I have a strong support system and I don’t let the noise in. Now, when I say let the noise in, that is both me having my own self doubt because I consider myself still new at it. I am really inspired by other awesome creatives HOWEVER, I do not feel discouraged or less than because my work may not be as noticed or talked about as theirs may be. I understand that this is about building and there is a process and I went in to this business with that understanding. In my opinion, starting a business is quite easy, but keeping it going is where the challenge is. For me, the challenge right now is the marketing side! It is so important to know how to market. The how, includes the when, where and who. I am a visual artist entrepreneur still climbing (branding myself) and being a one-woman show is not easy because I have to do everything on the business end (while still learning your target audience and learn/keep up with social media algorithms and make sure I keep creating!! I actually love marketing but it takes up a lot of time because I don’t just like to do simple pictures of my work on social media and that’s it. I like to do snippets, maybe a commercial type marketing strategy and I like to interact with followers and that is very time consuming so all of that is where the challenge lies because you have to be able to really manage your time with it and keep your head in its creative space. As I Brand myself through my creative expression through painting, I simply want the world to enjoy and know that Sheneese loves what she does and I want you to be able to feel something in each piece that I create. I’m not really worried about what people feel because every mind is different and different perspectives will be taken away and maybe some of my paintings will get people really thinking and considering even another person‘s perspective as they look at it and even possibly have a short conversation about one of Sheneese’s Pieces.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, I am a go with the flow type person when it comes to extracurricular activities unless there is something very specific that I would want to see or do . So, if I had a best friend that was coming to visit me for a week, I would have a few things in mind but I would first make sure that I knew what their mood was and what they felt like doing. If it were solely up to me, day one we will probably just relax around the house. I would make sure that I cook whatever they wanted to eat and would probably enjoy a couple of movies and games at home. Oh, And we will make sure that we spend time in my husbands upstairs man cave/game room/ club dancing and listening to music and reminiscing of past good times. Lol! The rest of the week would be visiting other family and friends, going to a few of my favorite or known restaurants and social spots, maybe ride to the beach that’s not too far from where I live, have a spa day and whatever else it is they want to do. And most definitely somewhere in between all of that, I will definitely show them where the magic happens for Sheneese‘s Pieces and possibly create a masterpiece together!☺️

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While I would love to give a shout out to a few members of my family that have been very supportive, I have to give a very special shout out to my husband who has been such a phenomenal support system since I started my journey. He has not only assisted me with every show, but was the first to suggest me doing one. My husband talks me up (promotes me) to individuals both strangers and people that he knows and has done so more than I have promoted myself and he’s so ready to assist me in taking my career to the next level and that means so much to me. To have my husband, my rock, be my actual rock and fully supporting what I am doing physically, mentally and emotionally, is a huge blessing.
