We had the good fortune of connecting with Zhariah Chillis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zhariah, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since I was a little girl, having a creative space was very important for me. Where I grew up, there weren’t very many artists, but I gravitated to everything art related very naturally. It was my outlet, and it brought me the most joy. I knew very young, that whatever career path I chose, it would be centered around art. It is the only thing that has ever made me feel truly fulfilled.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Bridal Stylist at Impression Bridal Galleria, where I started in January 2020. I have been working as a bridal stylist for 2 1/2 years. I got into bridal randomly, while in college when I was living in upstate New York. I started and instantly knew that it was the right path for me! I really love helping people in important moments in their lives and the bridal experience is one of those moments! I wanted to be in a space where I could still express myself creatively, and have a sense of routine! Bridal Styling checks all of the boxes for me. When in New York, I knew that I wanted to elevate, and The Impression Bridal Company was next in my cards! We are a small business, with only 5 stores in the US. We are a couture shop, and we do lots of custom work for our brides. The stylists in the store play a huge role in the gowns that come into our store. We are sure that we do our research of what trends are popular, while also keeping styles that are timeless. I get the opportunity to go to work everyday and create something new, it’s awesome and so much more than what most people imagine the job is! You have to give every person that walks in 110%!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’ll only being here for a little over one year, I am still doing lots of exploring, however I have found a few great spots here that I enjoy! I would take them to Discovery Green, downtown Houston. It’s a super cute little park and walking distance to lots of restaurants! There’s also bikes to rent and you can feel the breeze and enjoy a nice little tour around the heart of Houston! Also, Montrose District! It is for people who are really free spirits and love to hangout in a space where they can let loose! There’s also great places to eat and drink for a super affordable price! There’s also a super cute thrift store in the area called Pavement Houston. Lastly, I would check out some interactive museums like Seismique and The Color Factory, as well as going to the art district and exploring there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Impression Bridal Galleria – Margaret Chen, who gave me the opportunity to work in such an incredible company and who helped me realize how great I could be! Derek Zander, who constantly pushes me to be my best and runs the Impression Bridal Galleria Store.
