We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey & Emma and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacey & Emma, what principle do you value most?
Community and support. She Creates Union was founded on the premise that nothing is more valuable than sharing our experiences to help each other make better decisions. Our community is made up of female makers, artists, and business owners in and around Elgin TX.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In May of 2018, we met at a monthly Stitch & Hoot in Elgin, Texas. We were both sharing about things we were trying to figure out for our own small creative businesses. We both work demanding day jobs and we were looking for ways to nurture our businesses so that they fulfill our creative needs. We talked about how cool it would be to have a local group for women makers and artists whose sole function was to fully support each other creatively and help each other navigate branding, social media, marketing, and general business best practices, areas we often found challenging as non-digital natives! We both woke up the next morning knowing we needed to start one and couldn’t wait to talk to about it. We made plans to meet for lunch and talk about our vision for the group, and the rest, as they say, is history (or more to the point, herstory). Since the beginning, our community has left each monthly meeting feeling so encouraged and ready to learn more and do good work. We are always pushing each other to do things sooner than we would have on our own. Being part of this amazing group of talented and brilliant women is both humbling and inspiring. We always look forward to sharing our dreams, failures, and successes over dinner, or for the past year, via Zoom. One of the best things about our meetings is that each of us has the opportunity to be both student and teacher. We founded She Creates Union on the premise that nothing is more valuable than sharing our experiences to help each other make better decisions. In December 2019 we hosted our first Luna Market, a curated outdoor evening market that showcases local women artisans & makers, local food, and entertainment, with a little bit of theater and whimsy. Luna Market has quadrupled in size since then. We’re hosting our 6th and largest Luna Market to date on Friday, April 23rd, 6-9 pm. She Creates Union also hosts an annual pie social and is looking forward to offering in-person workshops and socials as soon as possible.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thursday afternoon you’d find us at the Elgin Farmers’ Market stocking up on fresh local food for the weekend. We’d then head up Main Street for the monthly Stitch and Hoot at the Owl Wine Bar and Home Goods. Friday morning would start with lattes and pastries from Chemn Cafe, then since any friend of ours is a knitter or crocheter, we’d drive out to Yarnorama in Paige for a fiber fix. That evening would see us back at the Owl for live music, excellent wine, and a little shopping. Saturday morning starts with brunch at Firewild on Main, then heading across the street for a blacksmithing class at Earthen Metals. After a well-earned nap, we’d venture to Joseph’s Steak House for a slap-up steak dinner. Sunday morning may find us at a gentle yoga class at Body and Shine Wellness followed by a stroll around the vintage and antique stores in historic downtown Elgin. And lastly, since Elgin is the sausage capital of Texas, a trip to either of our famed BBQ joins before they hit the road.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For a small town, Elgin has an extraordinary number of female business owners and artisans, we are fortunate to be in a position to partner with them for creative and community events.
