We had the good fortune of connecting with Kasey Willis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kasey, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I always had a creative side to me when I was younger but struggled to find the medium. I kind of “fell into” doing hair. But I feel like God really led me to this career path to challenge me in different areas of my life and refine me of some character flaws so I could be better and live a more full life and hep others. Specifically, I am an introvert at heart and it used to be really crippling but, I had to learn to work around that and adapt to people in my chair.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. From what I can tell from my reviews and interactions with my clients, I feel like one of my strengths that sets me apart is that I listen to people. Not just about their hair but about their lives and their struggles. There’s a Maya Angelou quote that says “ I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” and that rings true. One of my strengths is finding value in everyone and encouraging them to love themselves and others better. I think people love their hair when they come to see me but they love even more that they were loved in my chair.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to be outside, love music and good food. So, I would probably go to some of the local parks that have trails and pretty water ways in the Houston area. I would catch a show at White Oak Music Hall, a movie at Showboat Drive In, eat waffles at Seabrook Waffle company, oysters at Gilhooleys, brunch at Lucilles, Tiny Boxwood or find some new spots. I would take them to visit the Elijah Rising gift shop and A 2nd Cup to show them some awesome organizations that fight human trafficking. I’d go play Bingo in the Heights, get some Mexican food at Pappacitos or Ninfas, pop over to Galveston and go to the beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, God is the one who deserves all the glory for getting me this far. There have been many times that I have wanted to quit or I was struggling in my profession and He brought a better opportunity or met a need that I had so that I could keep going.
