We had the good fortune of connecting with Andra Collins- Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andra, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in Houston, Texas near downtown. I then moved towards southwest Houston and I graduated from Bellaire High School. My mother became a seamstress at the age of 15 and somewhere along the way she got introduced to floral design and started an event business where she focused on brides and weddings. I have freelanced for some florist in the past and would do some weddings and events for referred clients. After designing a wedding in Wisconsin, I decided to jump into the floral design business and Inheritance Floral Design was created in 2018. Even though my business is fairly new, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience and my years as a floral design instructor to my business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets Inheritance Floral apart from other businesses is our attention to detail and relatability. We take pride in being able to approach our clients with care, class and style. We work with what is in season and available to ensure quality and quantity. We can special order anything that a client desires and will go above and beyond to ensure that the event is designed, layered and filled with luxurious blooms. It has been a very arduous process and there are still many more levels to climb. The floral business is all about referrals and vendor relationships.
I have learned not to undersell myself so that I can get the client. I am worth every dollar that my clients will spend to have their events enhanced with the beauty of florals. As an artist, I have to fill the vibe, if a potential client comes to me with disjointed design plans or a concept I do not see the vison of, I refer them to someone else.
Inheritance is a family tradition passed down from one strong woman to another; you can trust us with the moment of your special day that will create memories for the rest of your life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start off with Harry’s or the Breakfast Klub for breakfast. Head to Memorial Park for some cardio, or we may do that first.
Go to Gangam Spa for a nice body scrub.
If we are eating healthy go to Flower Child for a light lunch.
Smoke a cigar at Bayou City Cigar Lounge downtown.
Go dancing at The Spot Eado and catch a vibe at Miss Carousel.
End the night with a late night meal from the Cantina Barba

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my mom, Laura. My mom gave me the talent of design, fashion, food, and culture. I am forever indebted to her for this talent that God has blessed and made a gift. I would like to thank my bestfriend and business partner Michele Simon, she has rode through the thick and the thin with me. I know the next 18 months is going to be bananas for us. We can’t wait to meet all of our new and returning clients. I would also like to thank my other friend Joanna Crumpton, who is another designer on staff. The three of us make a great team. I would like to lastly shout out my sister, Mia Cleveland, who is a phenomenal wedding and event coordinator. She jumps in for clients that need help pulling it all together for their special day.
