We had the good fortune of connecting with Zelina Medrano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zelina, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I find inspiration in poetry, vintage style from the 50’s/60’s era, romance and Wes Anderson films. Overall, I am inspired by the beautiful, dainty and delicate but I do enjoy the splashes of bold colors found through Anderson’s films.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create content to celebrate women of all sizes. I aim to teach women to love themselves and that they don’t need to be a certain size to dress how they want. I also aim to inspire others to romanticize their life. I have been creating content for about 9 years and since then, social media has evolved so much! I believe what sets me apart, is that I am still me, no matter what trends come and go, I know what works for me, my taste and body and I stick with it. My attention to detail and really and truly this is how I live my life . It isn’t a facade or a show for Instagram, I truly romanticize my life.

What I’m most proud of is a combination of having a platform where I have met good people who have turned into close, real life friends and inspiring people to dress how they want to dress. It makes my day when I get a direct message from someone telling me they admire my confidence, because I hope I inspire them to love themselves and be confident in their own skin.

I have so much fun creating content that it doesn’t feel difficult whatsoever. The obstacles I come across is making the time to create content to post consistently. Before I would beat myself up over not posting consistently, but I have learned to give myself grace in that aspect.

The lesson I have learned is that there is solace in knowing that real life happens outside of social media. It helps to remember this as I get caught up on silly things such as reach and algorithm.

I want the world to know that we make art to say how we feel. And also, my real name is Zelina. Ramona Flowerzz is derived from Scott pilgrim vs. the world but I hardly correct people when they call me Ramona 🙂

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let’s first hope that there isn’t a torrential downpour in Houston…. haha But a picnic at discovery green is a must, a glass of wine at Montrose Cheese & Wine. They have the best cheeses!

We would have to go to the museum of funerals and the contemporary museum.
Food, I’m going to have to say la cruderia. I’m from the valley, and I LOVE their tacos. Lovebuzz for some pizza, and I’m a big beer fan, so a brewery tour around town. Saint Arnold’s, Karbach, 8th wonder and Buffalo Bayou Brewery. The view is amazing from that third floor.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom, for her unwavering support and teaching me from an early age to love the thrill of thrifting.
