We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ TNT and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business steamed from the obstacles that one endures when reentering society. I was able to turn my hobby or side hustle of djing into a business. Of the many obstacles one edures after successfully paying their debt to society and just wanting to put their past behind them and live their best life adequate employment is at the top of the list. No-one is willing to take that risk no matter how educated or qualified your are. So, I took a risk and bet on myself and I am loving every minute of it and I share my success on my journey with others through my non-profit program Felon to Phenomenal.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am thankful for this question because all djs are artist and creatives. We have many talents. So not only do I dj, I write comedy and poetry and perform from time to time. So my love for performance art sets me apart from others because I can use that during my dj set as I mc and engage with my audience. I got to where I am professionally by staying committed, consistent and building relationships. It is in no way easy but nothing worth having is, right? Challenges are apart of life and it’s just a test so if you really want something and have specific goals in place you will find a way. That’s how I overcome challenges having specific goals in place, breaking them down into steps and keep pressing forward. I’ve learned so many lessons on my journey and am committed to learning everyday. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that you have to be grateful and responsible for what and with what you have now before you gain more and keep it. If you don’t you could lose it all or never gain more. At the end of the day I would want the world to know that we are all gifted and talented and we should be sharing our gifts with each other. The opportunity for me to become a dj was sparked because I realized my love for music was beyond that of the average person and there is a skill or talent that you possess that is beyond the average person. Explore it , cultivate it and see what happens.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
So many places to choose from. I’ll start with a Sunday itinerary and work it bacwards. We would kick things off with a good word so we would attend PopUp Worship currently help and Spotlight Karaoke Midtown. Hit up brunch at Grace’s continue the Sunday funday at Bar 5015. Saturday would be a day by the water take your pick Kemah boardwalk, Lake Conroe or Galveston Island. Friday we would have to checkout who’s performing at the Hottest comedy club in the city the Houston Improv. A few meals along the trip would include Velvet Tacos, Whataburger if they aren’t from Texas, snocones from the Red wagon , The Turkey leg hut and the Breakfast Club. Other than that I love being from one of the largest cities in the U.S and there is always something going on and new that I haven’t even tried or attended. So it would definitely be an experience and a trip to remember.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is so many people that have impacted me and helped me along the way and as a people person I wish I could name everybody. I wouldn’t want anyone to feel left out. As I think about my dj career specifically I would have to shoutout Carlos Wallace and my Sol Caritas family without them I would not be one of the most sought after comedy and poetry dj’s in Houston. I have had the opportunity to work with and bulid genuine relationships with some amazing people under the Sol Caritas umbrella such as Comedian Eddie B, Ken Boyd and countless others.
