We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Coronado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think risk is an essential part of unlocking the next phase of your life. You can choose to continue your daily routine and just day dream of what your life could be like…goals you can attain….where your career will be in the future, or you can actually take a risk and take things into your own hands. Everything I have ever accomplished has come from overcoming my fears, believing in myself and taking a risk. Whether it was continuing my education, getting a job a huge corporation, quitting that job, starting a business, writing a book, it all stems from taking a risk. Many of us are not taught or encouraged to attempt these things. We’re praised if we work hard and stay in the box, but then you go out into the real world and experience new settings around successful people and you start to ask questions. “What do they do for a living?”. “How have they created a life of fulfillment and freedom?”. More often than not I’ve found that some of the most successful people that I admire are risk takers. You begin to change your perception of what your own life could look like. I think it’s important to talk about dabbling in new things. Trying out things your interested in. Finally starting that project, whether it works for you or not, it’s important to try. To give yourself the opportunity to live a life of fulfillment. Taking a risk is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Of all of the things I have done, my book “Failure or Fearless” is available on Amazon, Kindle, and Barnes& Noble and it’s something I couldn’t be more proud of. I have learned so many things during my entrepreneurial journey and the book is a condensed form of what to expect, how to overcome emotional hurdles, rejection etc. It’s something I wish I had when I started and I’m incredibly proud of it. If there’s anything I would want people to get from my journey, it’s that anything and everything is possible, you just have to believe and put the work in. I’ve had challenges along the way. People have doubted me. Called my writing “unprofessional.” or tried to box me into “Just another blogger/ influencer.” , but it hasn’t stopped me from working with huge brands and turning my writing into a form of income. It hasn’t stopped me from writing a book and selling a thousand copies the first day. Just because you didn’t get a formal degree, in whatever it is you’re doing , doesn’t mean you can’t educate yourself and work your butt off to be just as good as everyone else is. It’s all possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Discovery Green has a “Screen on the green” every month and it’s the coolest thing! Watching an outdoor movie screen in the middle of downtown is by far one of my favorite things to do. Axelrad is my favorite place to have a slice of pizza and a cocktail. They have live music, board games, and these awesome hammocks you can hangout in. If you’re feeling more adventurous renting a Kayak or bikes at Buffalo Bayou is the perfect way to enjoy the Houston heat in the most scenic way. I’d highly recommend!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and the women in my life are, by far the reason why I’m here. When I met my husband he thought he was going to marry a doctor, you can imagine the initial shock when I said I want to drop out of school; start a business and pursue writing. He was incredibly supportive and still is! He’s my tech support, photographer, and everything in between. Without his undeniable support I wouldn’t be here. My father, who stopped working at a major corporation when I was 5 years old has no idea what watching that did for me. My go-getter, self taught, I have to get this attitude is all owed to him. Lastly, my closest friends have been my rock . From helping me package up product, buying my book and sharing it with others, from never letting me give up- they’re amazing. Women supporting women in a genuine way has made this process so enjoyable, even on the difficult days.
