We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Rachelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I love telling stories! I’ve always known that I wanted to become a filmmaker, specifically writing, producing and directing. However, my desire to tell stories while educating the mass produced a love for journalism- my major at The University of Texas at Austin. I graduated from there in 2004 with a Journalism degree but pursued film. I set foot on a film set in Austin right after graduation and it solidified my love for making movies. Seeing how movies effect change and affect people through documentaries or narratives that are relatable and genuine, keeps me driven in following through with story ideas I have and scripts that I’ve started.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the things I cherish the most about filmmaking is the journey. Ironically, it’s some of the unpredictability that keeps me on my toes and keeps the career exciting. I moved to LA a few years after college graduation to specifically learn about film development and pre-production (nurturing a story idea into a script and preparing the script to be shot). Although I was mentally prepared for financial hardship (Cali is expensive!),

I love working with people to make one idea come to fruition. It takes a team to make a film and finding reliable people who actually show up or show up on time has been a blessing but can also be a huge challenge as well. When I find people who simply do what they’ve said they will do and do it well, I hold on to them.

AlyRac Films is a full-service production company that provides service across a wide range of integrated media. We specialize in film and video production, specifically writing, shooting and post-production needs for medium to large businesses.

Starting out in short films, AlyRac has grown to produce web series, podcasts and documentaries. I am very proud that the company has an award-winning documentary film and a tv series in pre-production under its belt. Just getting to the finish line is a huge feat and I look forward to how AlyRac will continue to create authentic and thought-provoking content for many years to come.

AlyRac Films teamed up with The Guild HTX to create a production studio Collective Studios located in the 2016 Main building in downtown Houston.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to eat and Houston has some of the best restaurants. Breakfast is my favorite meal so The Breakfast Klub is a must! Houston’s art scene is amazing so we would visit Marc Furi’s “I Love 3W,” the Monopoly-inspired installation in Third Ward and check out a concert featuring local artists. We would check out yoga in Discovery Green then head to The Grove for lunch or dinner and drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother has always been a huge supporter. She has always made me feel like I could do absolutely anything. Since I run most of my ideas by my husband, I jokingly call him my Creative Director. He’s been essential in flushing out story outlines and execution of my productions.
